Haven't seen him in ages - but then I haven't been around much. The other is taken in Byske (where we were on the safe side and turned up about 4 hours ahead of kick-off). There were 27 addicks for that game - plus Tord Grip0

This is really shocking because I went to the funeral of another Addick a couple of weeks ago and he was also 55.0 -

He was indeed the guy who got to the best pubs half an hour before anyone else .0 -
Didn't know him by name, but certainly do recognise him from those photos and saw him at many games, over many years. Very sad news, too young. Rest in Peace Steve.0

RIP Steve that really is a shock. I got to be aware of Steve via HugoZH and our trips to the Castle in Oldham Street for the Manchester games we joked that he was there knocking the door to get the pub to open! Always said hello and have seen him at so many away games over the years0

Familar face from games gone by, and boozers frequented across the land, watching the red army , shocking news a great loss my thoughts to his family and friends

I'd like to say "my pleasure" Rich but it's not, it's my very sad priveledge. I'm showing you my holiday snaps and that's a measure of how well I knew the guy. We all tend to know each other either as pseudonyms on here or as nicknames - "the world's tallest man" being an excellent example - but relatively rarely by real names. I wanted to give people the opportunity to connect the name with the face and it's my sad priveldge to do so. I'm sure Steve won't take offence.

Thanks Hugo. It feels wrong speculating who someone is that has passed away so thanks for sharing. I recognise him from those early days at selhurst to random northern away days. Have also seen him at cricket and thought to myself "he goes Charlton". As NLA says, another one lost to the Covered end in the sky.0

I attended the Funeral yesterday of my friend Steve Rand who passed away the day after the Stevenage game. There was a good turnout from the Addickted and his parents were genuinely touched by how well regarded Steve was in our community .
Sorry to correct you, Rich, but wasn't it "Rann"? That's possibly why it didn't register when I first saw this on the bus
Steve was an avid Addicks fan who rarely missed a game either home or away .He was a modest and unassuming man who had a dry sense of humour . He could always be found in Real Ale Pubs off the beaten track when travelling away . I never saw him lose his temper and he would always look at the positives regarding his beloved Charlton .
As well as Charlton he followed Kent Cricket in the Summer months and kept a Border Colly Dog . In his career he worked on the Railway as a Quantity Surveyor.

Man, it's a shock. The more I think about it the more I remember.
I'm not sure 2 bottles of Old Tom will be enough to do Steve justice. Perhaps I should fetch more tomorrow.....0 -
Looking at the photo's kindly posted by Hugo, brought back merories of Steve walking round a golf course with 3 others addicks just to keep us company as one of the other golfers was his mate Mark, who is the bloke sitting on the far right in the 2nd photo. The 3rd member of that odd quartet, Andy, is often found at Charlton away games and was a good friend of Steve's and I;m sure he wishes to pass on his thoughts............0

Ditto from me. Such sad news - the loss of a fellow Addick always will be but especially as he was witnessing the best season on the pitch in a while.

I did not know the guy other than to speak to him very briefly as he was a friend of a friend.
However, I saw him on numerous occasions at the aways, knew he was a Kent fan also.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.

What a lovely fellow Steve was, spent many an hour in his company in Canterbury,Charlton,Away matches and quiz matches.
Will be sorely missed but many.

Just seen this thread as well. As with Large, Henry and MOG I knew steve from the football quizzes and away trips in the days when I had the time to go away.
Nice fellow to get to know. his passing has come as a shock to me.

Steve was one of those guys that you always used to see at away games. If I could name the people always there, it would be Seb & say Steve. I don't think I hardly ever spoke to him, just a nod, even though we often ended up staying in the same B&B's or hotels.
I definitely saw him very recently, possibly Chesterfield away, in the bar, before the game.
Very surprised & saddened.

He was in Chesterfield for the postponed game and true to form he spent the day in the town of the crooked Spire and enjoyed the local hostelries.

Like Large and Henry Irving I knew Steve from my Charlton quiz team days. He sure knew his football. A real Charlton man through and through and was a happy likeable man. RIP Steve.0
