    5 - Foo Fighters - Wasting Light

    Songs

How Suck it and See by Arctic Monkeys aren't on everyone's list is a mystery. It's a modern classic.

I've never listened to a whole Arctic Monkeys album.

    Albums:
    1. *shels - Plains of the Purple Buffalo
    2. Thrice - Major/Minor
    3. Between The Buried & Me - The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues
    4. Russian Circles - Empros
    5. Sylosis - Edge of the Earth

Mastodon and Opeth albums were both massively disappointing.

Granted, the Opeth album was poor, but I thought Mastodon's was great - a bit of a departure in places, but still head and shoulders above most other mainstream metal out there. What didn't you like about it?

Agree that it's still superior to most other metal bands. But it felt a bit safe and the songs are more formulaic, and based on all their other albums they're capable of so much better. Troy and Brent's clean singing has improved, but it's still not great so I prefer the shouty shouty stuff. So I guess my feelings stem from how highly I rate their previous material, rather than how it compares to other metal albums released this year.

The Opeth album is woeful. I had a ticket for their most recent tour but didn't bother going.

I know, there are 13 other crackers on the RHCP album but this is the one with the fat bass line that sticks in my head. Saw them live on Jools Holland a couple of weeks ago and heard the new songs ( didn't know they had an new album out this year! ).

    Top 5 Albums

Various Artists - Nova Tunes 2.3 ( a truly eclectic mix of songs )

Various Artists - Shapes 11:01 ( with the oddest cover version ever of Dr Dre's Nothin' but a G'Thing )

Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You

    Gui Boratto - III

Hard Mix - Defaults ( Not only is it good but it was free on Facebook )

  • I love these lists, being on the other side of the world where you only hear american, Korean (actually quite like the girl groups!) and chinese these lists are life savers.

Last year I listened to a number of peoples recs and downloaded a lot of the stuff so keep it up.

Agreed about Metronomy, brilliant album probably would be 6th on my list. Thought this year was much better than last, could easily pick a top 10

The 5th place on the Albums list was a right pain in the arse to decide, flipped from the Rifles, to Miles Kane, the Antlers (exceptional album top 5 in any other year) Gruff Rhys, and even Beirut, and then stopped on the Arctics, mainly cause 99.9% bands would kill to make an album that good.

Not sure when these came out, but am loving these bands/albums:

Trevor Moss & Hannah Lou - Quality First, Last and Forever
    Stealing Sheep
    Alessi's Ark

Trevor Moss & Hannah Lou song - 'Spin me a rhyme' and its video (on you tube) are great. So good live. Seen them a couple of times now.

Can't think of anything else. Definately been a year for going back through the back catalogue. Lost my ipod in May and not commuting for 7 months got me out of the habit of listening to new music.
  • 1.Arctic Monkeys - Suck it and see

    2. Decemberists - The King is Dead

    3. Adele - 21

    4. Tom Waits - Bad As Me

    5. PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
