41, due to something normal people have never heard of called BODMAS, apparently. I still think it's 1...0
-
If there was brackets it would be 41....but theres not so it's 1 8-)0
-
1. Anything times 0 is 0 isn't it? Use a calculator.0
-
Nope, look up BODMAS.0
-
Written like that the answer is 1.0

Isn't BODMAS only when there are brackets involved, hence the B. I'm pretty sure its 1.0
-
Its got to be 1 as 40 + 40 x 0 = 0 so you just plus 1, easy.0
-
it is 41 - unless brackets then you evaluate multiplication ahead of addition0
-
NO! The gist of it is that the part of the equation involving the multiplication symbol is effectively bracketed off, whether they are there or not - bollocks isn't it... but true.0

1
40+40 =80
80x0 = 0
0+1=1

In the real world the answer is 1.0
-
No brackets so the answer is 1.

Never knew why that was the case when they taught us BODMAS at School but AA is correct.

There are two answers, the calculater way and the BODMAS way.... I feel sorry for kids doing maths...0

That sum makes no sense, it's like a sentence with no grammar. Try expressing it in words or give an example of when you would do something like that.

I just put in a calculator and got 41. No idea how that works, another reason why I'm not taking maths for A level.0

Only Bodmus if there are brackets and/or multipliers
It's 1.

Order of Operations
Do things in Brackets First. Example:

6 × (5 + 3) = 6 × 8 = 48
6 × (5 + 3) = 30 + 3 = 33(wrong) Exponents (Powers, Roots) before Multiply, Divide, Add or Subtract. Example:

5 × 22 = 5 × 4 = 20
5 × 22 = 102 = 100(wrong) Multiply or Divide before you Add or Subtract. Example:

2 + 5 × 3 = 2 + 15 = 17
2 + 5 × 3 = 7 × 3 = 21(wrong) Otherwise just go left to right. Example:

30 ÷ 5 × 3 = 6 × 3 = 18
30 ÷ 5 × 3 = 30 ÷ 15 = 2(wrong) How Do I Remember It All ... ? BODMAS !
BBrackets first OOrders (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.) DMDivision and Multiplication (left-to-right) ASAddition and Subtraction (left-to-right) 0 -

Try putting it in a scientific calculator... Gospel! 42!0 -

Not according to this...
huh, not gonna believe wiki ;-) ... sticking to my answer of 1 ... which is the most logical0 -
