Charlton travelled to Crawley Town this evening looking to avenge the reverse encounter late last year that saw Crawley come from behind at the Valley. Surprisingly, it started as an end-to-end affair with both sides having chances. It took a while for Charlton to settle into a bit of possession but when they did they began to carve Crawley open. Alex Gilbert was handed his first start for the Addicks. His late arrival into the box furnished a lot of openings and at least one shot that tested ex-Addick-keeper Jojo Wallacott. As the half wore on, Charlton’s endeavor began to pay off. On thirty-seven minutes Charlton took the lead through Thierry Small’s thunderous shot that beat Wallacott at his near post.
In the early stages of the second half Charlton had numerous chances to extend their lead but the ball just wouldn’t go in again. Tyreece Campbell, MIles Leaburn, Alex Gilbert all having a go to beat Wallacott without success. Crawley’s last match ended in a draw through a late equaliser. Though Charlton defended resolutely, it was a nervy finish as Crawley through everything into another late goal. Lloyd Jones headed everything in front of him and, at one point, wrapped himself precariously around WIll Mannion’s goal post as he glanced away a header.
Another clean sheet and three points to add to our promotion campaign.

Christ, good to win while battening down the hatches. The sort of win good sides grind out. I am here for it. Long may it continue and I hope we can stay fit in the long-term appropriately - some of the lads looked like they were feeling the effects of constant 90 minute shifts.
Not sure how Crawley are that low in the table, mind. They seemed to string some decent stuff together and it'd get past many sides lower in the table than us.19 -
Job done - Delighted7

I've watched better things. Like my own colonoscopy. Much like my colonoscopy though after a generally sedate event with a few uncomfortable moments here and there it ended with a positive outcome and I shouldn't have to go there again for a long time all being well. I have nothing else to add, you get the colonoscopy analogy today. Goodnight.57

Scrappy 1-0 away wins at this stage of the season are what get teams promoted. We are going to do it10

Nothing better than the ground out 1-0 away from home.Could have been more, and defensively we look fantastic4
-
I fucking love this team. Last 4/5 years had no attachment emotionally to any of our players but now I’m sucking off Gillesphie who was pukka again tonight.
I can’t get enough lads.42 -
Not to mention that both Bolton and Wrexham lost18

Great result we are like a well oiled machine atm every player putting it on the line for the shirt and everyone else around us bar Birmingham falling over like lime bikes.25

Crawleyed our way to the finish line…sorry11

Could have flinched in this game, but a cracking goal and then steely defence kept them out. Great stuff, now onto the next

An entertaining and surprisingly open, flowing game. We could and should have scored at least a couple more but a good win that takes us up to 4th. The other results went our way too. A good evening to be an addick.5

great result onwards and upwards0

What a super professional performance. Never at our best but held on for a vital win.
Lloyd Jones absolutely outstanding. And Gillesphey wasn't far behind him.
Just hope Edwards isn't badly injured.28 -
Fantastic evening with Bolton and Wrexham losing.
Win at Wrexham and we've got 9 games to get one more win than them.
Winning at Wrexham and Wycombe is easier said than done but it's really exciting that there's a chance.24 -
100% record since Methven stepped down... Clearly the problem!!41

Performance not our best we lacked the press in midfield … but we take the 3 points Doc Berry and Godden have to start on Saturday … we got away with it a little bit tonight because it was Crawley5

Well done lads.
We're machine-like, which suits accumulating wins for the automatic promotion spots.
Lloyd Jones, well done again. Immense.

Missing Docherty, missing a bit of mojo on the bench but we managed to make it work (just about)
We've been pretty scrappy the past few games and I think despite our fitness records being up there with the best, it's slowly taken it's toll, but thankfully we've ground out a lot of wins in that time9 -
Gilbert looked decent, same sort of player as Berry, just quicker.12

A quick word in praise of their midfielder Doyle, who looked a very useful player.5

Last time i watched them play this badly it was on a losing run. This time they played badly and won and without conceding. The stuff of promotion contenders. Thought Lloyd Jones was about the only person who stood out with a nod to Small for his goal. Great to watch 3 points.3

I'll take scrappy 1-0 wins all day long.
It wasn't pretty but at this stage of the season it's all about the points.
Saturday i'd go back to the team of a couple of weeks ago with Godden , Berry and Docherty back in the side. I'm not Sure Leaburn up front is working .
I hope Edwards's injury isn't too bad.
With Wycombe playing Wrexham and Bolton playing Stockport on Saturday , a win against Wigan will be massive.21 -
Hopefully we're not going to start getting some injuries, that could be the concern as the games pile themselves up on us, really need to avoid Coventry getting a suspension (One game to survive), and hopefully Edwards was another precaution.
Jones on the other hand is doing his best to injure himself these last two games as well - We could probably do with the Peterborough game being called off for Internationals, give us a week recovery, especially as they've got Poku back.6 -
Lloyd Jones was immense again. Even burst into the box to good effect, seeing as they opened the gates for him.
Macauley Gillesphey was excellent again.
Small and Ramsay played their part.
Good work from Alex Gilbert in his debut.Mannion made at least one very good save in traffic and was commanding.Despite that, it was nervy. Hopefully we can become the rip, roaring, free-scoring Addicks again soon, because my nerves are almost bloody shot.17 -
FT Reading 2-0 Wrexham
Caps off a brilliant night for Charlton. COYR10
