Looking at finally buying an electric vehicle. They are just starting to sell BYD here in Ireland and as such the prices are better (cars are ridiculously expensive here). Anyone offer any advice? Please and thank you.
My only experience of them is being picked up by one when I booked an Uber.
Compared to other more main stream electric cars it felt very "bargain basement". Lots of plastic in the interior, gimmicky door handles which felt very fragile, rear seats were very uncomfortable and the ride was extremely firm.
The "best" electric car I've been in was a Polestar. Much cheaper than Tesler and was far nicer
Cheers Clem. Not sure we get Polestar here, I’ll have a look. It did make me laugh on the promo for the one we’re looking at, the compartment on the doors has three strings to hold anything you store there. Which they say you can strum like a guitar. Wtf??? 😂😂
We have an Ioniq 5 , we both like it although a couple of minor bits irritate us, range fairly good, but the big thing we agree on (fairly rare) , we charge it at home on our drive, Thursday will be our first experience of charging on the road in six months.
I test drove a seal the other week. Found it quite comfortable and sporty. The boot opening was a bit small for me and I like cars where I can extend the seat for longer legs. The spinning screen was interesting. Went for vw id7 in the end as the offer was very good, seats were comfier, and boot access way better as sport back.
Test drove a BYD before getting a Tesla and there’s not really much comparison, cheapy inside and out and nowhere near as smooth to drive. Had a Polestar as a courtesy car and they’re lovely cars, just seem allot smaller inside than the Tesla.

Charging network is alot different between Tesla and others, superchargers are very convenient and reliable when you need them. I would also say the software in Tesla is a step ahead of BYD and a majority of competitors (although the gap is starting to close).Tesla is alot more efficient as a vehicle, IMO range is consistent with their estimate in summer and I have only lost about 10% range in the cold months.
The traction in winter on my AWD has been exemplary.

Our mate works for Tesla and we’ll take advantage of testing it for a couple of days. But for me the Musk thing means I’m already hoping I hate it. I sat in it a few weeks ago and couldn’t believe how little is in there. A big screen, a steering wheel and that’s it. Nearly as basic as my old 2CV 😂😂😂😂
We’ve got the Renault Megane, it’s a great car for the price. Renault have a ton of experience with EVs with the Zoe, and they’ve used that on their new EVs like the Megane
Why would you want to buy a BYD.... Since this is not Members Only, I'm not going to say anything sensitive but.... I would definitely not buy any big or important items that are made in C if I were in Europe and had plenty other choices. Especially not EVs or mobile phones. I know very little about the actual brand in question apart from the fact they are cheap compared to all the usual European/American cars but you get what I'm really alluding to.

Defo took me a few days to get used to the screen and not having anything on the ‘dashboard’ in front of me. That and the automatic braking when you take your foot off the accelerator - I love it now, never have to touch the brake
I am not surprised people report that BYD cars look and feel cheap and tacky. Their price mark up is huge in the EU - about double the price compared with China. I understand that the EU has now slapped extra tariffs on them because of Chinese state subsidies. Personally, if I know and have a choice, I avoid buying anything Chinese for any number of reasons. So BYD, Polestar, MG, etc are not for consideration in my view.

Nice but with those wheels you will never get it past an MOT
Clear as mud 😫🫣🤣🤣🤣
I wish Citroen would do the same 😫😂😂
He's currently in a Genesis GV60 and says it's the best one yet. Been in it and was very impressed.
Electric vehicle sorted.
