MATCH THREAD : Crawley Town V Charlton Athletic : Wednesday 1st Jan 2025 : GAME OFF

Well, I must start with a huge HAPPY, HEALTHY, AND PEACEFULL NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL...🍺🥳🥂

So today we travel to The Broadfield Stadium to take on Crawley Town in what will be a revenge match after the reverse fixture 3rd December last year left us pointless, and this game couldn't come at a better time with us currently on a good run of three straight wins.
Crawley currently sit 21st and two points adrift from safety, while we could end the day literally knocking on the door of the top six, and there is no reason why we couldn't make today match No4 win on the spin...

We've locked horns on five previous occasions, winning two and Crawley three, and we all know the score last time we met 3rd December last year when Crawley ran out 2-1 victors at The Valley, a match which today we need to erase from the memory with another three points put convincingly on the board.

So, here we go...Lets start the New Year the way we finished the Last year, with another three points...

The Addicks will be wearing their yellow away kit in West Sussex

Nathan Jones has named an unnamed starting XI and substitutes bench for this afternoon's game.

Following heavy rainfall at the Broadfield Stadium, a pitch inspection is due at 2.15

It means the Addicks line up again with Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macaulay Gillesphey in a back three in front of goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer, who has conceded just twice in Charlton’s last five league games.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will once again operate as wing-backs with Luke Berry, Conor Coventry and skipper Greg Docherty in a midfield three behind Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell.

Will Mannion, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Karoy Anderson, Allan Campbell, Gassan Ahadme, Danny Hylton and Matty Godden again make up the bench.

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer; A.Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Docherty (c), Coventry, Berry, Edwards; Leaburn, T.Campbell

Subs: Mannion, Edmonds-Green, Anderson, A.Campbell, Ahadme, Hylton, Godden

  • I'm  at Gatwick Airport, just dropped off my sister.
Don't have a ticket but was thinking of just turning up at the stadium and playing it by ear.
Unfortunately my windscreen wipers broke on the way down  !
Still waiting  for my green flag assistance

Looks like the game is now 50/50 in terms of going ahead... Referee has just told Louis Mendez, after there was a massive downpour (Over on the Preview thread)

    Bloody Southern League ground...🙄
  • Pitch inspection at 2:15
  • Unchanged squad, probably all academic though
  • Jones ending a message to the board. We have no back up.

Suspect the game will be off unfortunately. .

Conroy - Mullarkey - Armando - Papadopoulos werent involved at all for the reserve clash at the Valley... John-Jules was a substitute.

Papadopoulos was playing for Welling last season

No problem with keeping the same 11 but don't why the bench couldn't be improved.
    Aren’t the likely improvements injured?

Unchanged for four in a row at this time of the year is impressively brave from Nathan Jones, and reveals a lot of gumption from the players still to be up for it.
Our down fall started when he made unnecessary changes. Glad he's learned from his mistakes
  • Its a shame not to see dicky on the bench (Dixon)

wouldnt have thought he would be at his best in a mudbath, might just slow him down a tad.
  • This won't be on.  A late pitch inspection never goes well.

Don't think Kanu and Taylor are (correct me if I'm wrong). Thought Aneke was meant to be back as well but who knows with him.

Why? - He showed against Leyton Orient that he needs longer with the U21s

Yeah I wouldn't have him on the bench for a few months yet , regular football at U21 level is what he needs. If I was to have an U21 on the bench it would be Kai Enslin

They've been out doing the Inspection earlier than what they initially planned
  • Sounds like it's on
  • Oh lovely goal at the Den!!
