Every time I hear from Chris Lock I'm more and more impressed. Talks a lot of sense, is calm and I can imagine he's a very good voice for young players to listen to.
Interesting to hear his comments on the pros and cons of loans and why games like this are useful.
Yeah I hadn't really clocked that we haven't sent many out on loan but it actually is noticeable when you think about it
Down the bare bones as it is so players are getting experience at the levels above their age group in any case.
Don’t spend the £700 gate receipts all at once Wingate and Finchley FC
The first team playing the same night wouldn't have helped. The 50 U21s regulars would have been at Burton or watching on telly.
Wingate FC were named after Ord Wingate, the British Army Officer who lead the Chindits in WW2 and who is now buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, USA.
Dulwich won 5-4 on pens after drawing 1-1 with Orient U21s.
Couldn’t make either match as I was at a gig, but when I saw the attendance at Wingate & Finchley I remembered a banner their supporters used to have: “More flags than fans.”
That flag was there when I visited a couple of years ago!
At one end of Fisher's ground they had a banner saying "No-one stands here we don't care".
All of that was better and purer than anything(admittedly limited ) I’d seen from him before . There’s some hope there. In the previous stuff I’d seen he looked a bit too raw and I presumed that’s what he’s been showing in training hence his lack of first team game time , maybe he’ll get some more minutes soon.
I was at the game. He scored 4 and missed about 7. In the last 25 minutes Wingate were dead on their feet. Dixon does not look ready for first team football to me.

Not even ready for 15-20 minutes at the end of games to run at tired defences?

Yes, maybe as a late sub but not as a main striker

Did anyone look ready? How did players such as Enslin compare?
I’m sure there’s potential there with Dixon, but it all feels very similar to Chris Dickson’s time here. The highlights and goals don’t show other areas of his game that are probably the reason for his lack of game time in the first team.
But of the seven chances he missed, how many did he make for himself out of nothing? Several of those he did score were just that, and not many players on our books would have scored.

He scored three of his goals from good passes.
Only the first could anyone say he made out of nothing.
Also to say few players on our books would have scored ignores the level of opposition and that there were five other goals scored by our players on the night.

Good point on other aspects of his game.
The difference with his almost namesake is his age.

The fourth goal was a 50/50 pass at best, his pace and touch gave him possession and led to a composed finish. The original defender on his heels, one coming to meet him and keeper feeling confident about the tight angle.
Tell me which of his goals were Docherty, Campbell or Coventry capable of scoring? Because they are current shoe-ins for our midfield, all having played Premiership football.

Well they would probably have scored 3/4 (not the overhead kick) because they were playing against semi pros. None of them are comparable to him anyway as they play in totally different positions. If Dixon gets minutes it will be as a striker

Dixon is a striker, two of those are midfielders and T Campbell scored loads at U21 level as a winger. Or do you mean A Campbell, anorher midfielder.
Kanu scored goals for fun in the U21s, M'Bick and Casey scored 40 goals each so yes other players could and did score those goals.
And whether it was a 50/50 pass or not (it wasn't) it was still a pass so not a goal created out of nothing as you claimed..
You are also ignoring both the level of the opposistion and that 6 goals in the last 30 minutes shows they were knackered.
Dixon is fast and skillfull and could be a real asset for us but this game will be one of the easiest he will ever play for us.
It will be a while before we know who we're playing in the next round - we'll be at home to the winner of Sutton Common Rovers v Dulwich Hamlet but they haven't fixed a date for that game yet as Dulwich only played their game in the previous round tonight.
Sutton Common Rovers v Dulwich Hamlet has been arranged for 27 January, after which negotiations will begin for the date of our game against the winner.
