Main priority must be another striker. Really hoping we are going to act early in the window as can’t afford to wait until the end of the month.
That not really down to us it will be down to the club who the players plays for .. if they want to wait for a better offer or a replacement before they let a person leave there nothing we can do but be patience like we have been in the past and got our man
We need to move players out before we can get any in as we are at the squad limit
Are we? Schwartz has gone so that should be one space. CBT extended an existing contract.
JFC takes the place of Schwatrz
Or we decide a striker is priority and JFC has to wait for another slot to come up.

A striker is a priority and JFC is not it.

Provided that there is a decent enough Striker available, and I stress that word.

I'd be surprised if Morecambe can keep Stockton for example BUT:

     - We wont be the only club looking for a Striker in January
     - Morecambe might not even dig their heels in as they know selling Stockton will confirm League Two for them.
  • We'll sell/loan out at least 1 player to make room, whether it's Morgan, Davison or Watson, I'd say they are the 3 expendable players right now in the squad
  • Morgan and Davision don't count towards the squad numbers though do they? I didn't think Schwartz was ever part of our official squad for this season?

There was a thread on who was included in the squad and which players counted etc

Schwartz was definitely on the Squad Registration list.
  • I think Arter was on loan only until January. I guess we will just not extend IF JFC is fit to play.

Nope season long loan... Forest had the option to recall in January

So we run the risk of not being able to play one of our highest earners, can't see that occurring

  • JFC for Schwartz, send back Arter and sign a striker.

Also depends on the age of the player we bring in.

If we somehow found a decent Striker or Centre-Back that is U21 then they wont need to be registered... If Arter goes back, then we've got two loan slots free in the matchday squad so could even bring in a couple of kids from the Premier League, even if we do have to sign an over-age Striker.
  • The absolute priority has to be centre backs
Inniss ain't up to it physically - 2 seasons now same story
Lavelle looked like a slimmer younger Jason Pearce (2021 version) then broke down with serious injury
Pearce is older, slower and now injured
Gunter - last night was just one example
Famewo has improved dramatically in recent weeks but could be recalled
Elerewe and Barker are talented teenagers with little experience

If we are to sustain a promotion push we need to keep the back shorne up and to do that we'll need 2 more capable experienced campaigners at CH, even if we don't carry on playing 3 at the back

We're continuing to score despite all the pant wetting B/S on here about lacking strikers.
We're probably overladen in midfield and one or two might need to get loaned out or sold to make room in the permitted squad, candidates? Morgan, Watson, Kirk are all off the list of starters, harsh on a couple but needs must.

A decent striker & aged U21 don't usually appear in the same sentence.

If you loan an U21 player from a Championship or Premier League side the odds are that they are not "prolific" and will be like most of the ones we've had on loan over the years, like Kaikai, Sanogoo etc etc.

If you want a decent striker you'll have to buy one. We didnt do it in the summer when we had more time, money & space in the squad, so I doubt we will in January.

If we signed a striker that would bump Davison down to 4th choice with of course Burstow now on the scene. We also have Leko who can play up front.

Maybe it's worth considering getting Davison a league 2 loan, that would free up a spot?

Ellis Simms bagged 8-goals for Blackpool in the second half of last season after signing from Everton.

Its not impossible, but then there is no guarantee that we'd be able to sign someone with 10-goals already to their name this season and expect them to continue their form - Cole Stockton being the obvious name, yet could easily be another Paul Benson the moment he walks into a bigger side.

This is how I see it... I get the approach that we need more Strikers and need to just out score the opposition.

But we've scored eleven goals under Jackson and conceded just three.

Two of which were when we started with just one recognised Centre-Back

    Scoring goals isn't the issue
  • people talking of Cole Stockton, have you seen his scoring record. He is 27 and has hit a purple patch this season, not a reason to sign him. Even last season he only scored 15 in League Two in 50 games, hardly prolific. Not the answer.
Agree with this. He’s having a good season but I don’t see a huge amount of talent. Better than Davison? Maybe but I’m sure we can do a lot better.
  • Stockton is from the northwest so more likely to move to a northern side. And under contract until 2023, so it's not as if Morecambe HAVE to cash in now

  • With the change in system, our squad now looks really unbalanced. Too many midfielders and wingers, not enough centre backs or strikers

Can’t see JFC being highly paid at all. His contract extension would have been on massively reduced money, given the circumstances.

In: CB loanee and Cole Stockton (saw enough on Tuesday to confirm he’s worth a punt at around 400k).
Out: Morgan (loan), Kirk (loaned back to Crewe!)
  • Stockton is definitely catching the eye around the league. I don't doubt there will be competition for his signature.

I've never played FIFA or Football Manager but I would imagine this is what it looks like.  ;)

Think we have enough centre backs, its just that three are injured at the same time.

Not necessarily, he signed a one year deal and for half of that he's injured. No one else would've signed him. Signing for us on reduced terms was better than earning nothing unemployed.
