New Charlton Director - Leo Rifkind

I noticed we've placed Leo on the Charlton Board. Leo was one of the Freshfields partners that advised Thomas on his CAFC and CAFC Women takeovers, also specialises in co-investors.
I'd be interested to know the purpose as the two transfers of ownership have already been completed, with a wage-cap-less(?) transfer window ahead, is Thomas already moving to one side to allow a second investor to the table?
*apologies if a thread exists, I couldn't find one*

Any relation to Malcolm? Unusual surname0

Leo the Lad is 29.
He must be a pretty clever chap to not only be a Director of the best club that wears red and white in south east london, but he is also a freshfields solicitor and has studied at some of the best universities in the world.
Seems like an interesting (in a good way) appointment.3 -
As was pointed out to me he's not from the sports side of Freshfields but is a good lawyer. So maybe he won't be involved in the football side of the club.
He has, I'm told by someone who's worked with him a "strong personality" and he was "Thomas' proxy in the whole takeover negotiation including the Southall side."
So maybe a proxy for TS while he's in the states but as one source said "if I were Thomas I'd confide in Leo as well"12 -

Actually, if I remember, Michael Gliksten was only 23 when he became Chairman at Charlton.

If it's okay with Admins I'll probably stay on seperate thread because that 1500+ pager gives me a headache!
I do find the timing interesting however, as he can't be part of any takeover at this point...4 -

Owning our assets is also a real show of long-term vision but one that isn't so pressing given the 15 year lease in place.2 -

I suspect he has just been brought in because Thomas regards him as a trusted advisor. Must have done a good job on the takeover and Thomas must be a valued client of Freshfields to persuade them to let him moonlight. Freshfields have a pretty terrible reputation for working its (very well paid) junior associates to the bone.5 -

At my firm you're either an associate or a partner - or counsel if you don't make partner. It is a US firm though so perhaps different.
