(Either way Charlton have been rumbled because Fleetwood, Gillingham and Burton all did this from the start to disrupt us. And it works. )
It's been the same for a couple of years - when people apply a high press we cannot handle it. Teams know if they allow us possession we will give it back to them when pressed. This isn't really a surprise and has been really evident for a while. We don't have the ball playing defenders that can punish teams when they do this to us. What the great teams do is still play it around, tire the opposition and get them to commit players forward to press and leave gaps in behind. Liverpool have done it for a while with their 3 strikers but the injuries mean they players stepping in to the team are not quite up to speed and it leaves gaps - hence them looking slightly more fallible now. Burton did their homework and any opposition scout worth their salt will recommend the same to their team.
