I called it a while ago that he’d be playing non league within a year. We have a crap record of signing “high profile” players. We usually seem to get them too late or they just don’t work.
The bloke still strikes me as an unbearable bell-end and probably not someone I’d want to have a pint with, but I hope this works out for him and he finds some peace and happiness from this move.

There's non league and there's 8th tier. That's 5 levels below where we are at the moment, and 2 levels below the likes of Dartford and Welling
People do what they have to do to find happiness and peace of mind. I applaud Maddison for doing what’s seemingly going to do that for him. Good luck and may your smile be wide Marcus.
If playing video games is his main hobby and he can pay the rent from that and 8th tier football whilst keeping him happy then fair play to him. Certainly something I personally would dream of doing.
He couldn't motivate himself for £2000 a week, so can't see it happening for £500 a week...not a chance.

Not everybody is motivated by money. Hes back near his kid, I dont think he has the motivation to be a complete success on the pitch but even at 50/60% he will massively stand out at that level. Good luck to the fella
So we get a development fee?? Sadly a player that was always likely to struggle, but we took a punt and it didn't come off. Despite dropping to 8th tier, I fear he will get a shock when he arrives as even at that level there is an expectation of commitment and professionalism.
I was very happy when MM joined us,I thought Bowyer,who had some "dodgy" moments early in his career,and went performing at the top level for years,might have seen a similarity and got through to him.It was not to be,now Mm will be playing for the fun of it,and not for money,he is not to old to have the "penny drop",and who knows ,may make it back to a decent level.So many very good players just drift away,Ravell Morrison,e.g. ,very frustrating to see for those of us who would have loved the chance to play top level,but where nowhere near good enough,but who knows the pressure that top level sport demands.
Eight tier players don't earn £500 a week though there are a few exceptions I heard about when I was watching that level in the south, over the last couple of seasons but that was a striker who was also coaching the youngsters one night a week, and was a good mate of the successful owner. Since COVID-19 and the season was halted on November 5th 2020, all clubs from the 6th tier down, will have even less players earning much money as part timers until the club bars are open for business and the lower League clubs let their hundreds of supporters back in again at the beginning of next season.
Billy Kee the successful striker in the lower divisions also gave up full time football because of stress/depression/anxiety to become a builder and it sounds as if he has found a calmness despite it being a harder way to make a living.
The guys who play at the 8th level give 100% commitment and Marcus Maddison may be in for a surprise when a Part time footballer and Scaffolder kicks him into row Z from a mixture of clumsiness and malice in the first few minutes of his debut.
I wish Maddison well because those of us who have had any combination of depression, anxiety, and stress know that its a dangerous mix and life becomes impossible to function and work, play and relationships with family, friends,work colleagues and strangers become untenable.
At 27 MM should have been a great signing in League 1 for cafc but unfortunately he was in a dark place which resulted in this scenario.

Sure he probably is a bit of a tool, but everyone is different and the blokes obviously been struggling mentally.

With his deliveries, he could probably walk around the pitch and still be a bloody good player at that level.
