  • Welcome Aiden.
  • Always been a dangerous player and Bowyer clearly likes him after watching the interview with Bowyer after our game with them last season, I’m personally pleased with this deal brings experience, assists and goals.

maybe esi do know what they’re doing after all would have preferred business done earlier but if we bring in top players then it was worth it.
  • He can hit the frucking ball. Not sure we have a free kick specialist.
  • Not bad that

i don't want the fat fucker

Not too pleased with this signing then, eh Jacob?

McGready and Williams will share the 90 + minutes of Matchtime.
A Left field signing but could add vital experience to the 18 man squad.
  • Great on his day. Always looked a bit overweight to me (the irony of this 18 stone fat fucker calling him out on that is not lost on me) and a bit inconsistent. Definitely experienced though and if motivated has to potential to add to our attacking play. Probably an upgrade on Ozzy. A relief to see at least one body in, although its box to box energy most that’s most urgently needed.

As always, what went before or comes after is irrelevant, it’s what he does here that counts.

Welcome Aiden, hope you’re a roaring success in SE7.
  • Not a bad signing, we need some creativity and he was Sunderland’s best player last year. It’s a start but we need at least another two through the door.

  • I see this loan as a "try before you buy" deal, which could turn out to be good for us. Looking at that highlights reel, he can certainly smack em with both feet.........

Whoa. Just saw this on Twitter. Did not see that one coming.

I really like the signing. It's a loan, so at the end of the year we can reassess. He was very good for Sunderland at times last year, but fell out with Parky. Always had problems with injuries, and some question around his attitude. But on his day, should be very good at this level.

    Some additional thoughts:
To me, this makes much more sense than signing Maddison permanently for 2.5m. Persistent questions about Maddison's attitude and he's never done it above League One. We could always look at signing McGeady at the end of the year if this works out. We won't be saddled with a player for two more years and little hope of recouping the transfer fee if it doesn't.

Also, between this and the linking of Maddison, both of whom have played the majority of their career as wingers, plus adding Green, I think Bowyer wants to switch to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 and 5-2-3.

To completely contradict the above, I wonder if this means that Bowyer sees Chuks Aneke, and potentially Andre Green, as center forwards going forward. If not, we'd have Oz, Jonny, Chuks, and McGeady who play as the 10 in a 4-4-2 diamond or 5-2-1-2. A lot of players for one role. Thinking of Chuks as a forward, where I think he looked quite good at the start of the year, means Hemed, Aneke, Bonne, and hopefully Taylor, plus Davison in support. It's not as strong as would be ideal, but it's still pretty decent.

Again, good signing, low risk, potential high reward.
I don’t think it would’ve been 2.5 for Maddison but this probably puts that deal to bed. More long term potential in Maddison but also perhaps more question marks about his personality. I wasn’t convinced he was the right signing for us.

Not totally convinced about McGeady but he has pedigree at a higher level and it’s a short term deal. I agree it makes sense in many ways.

I hope he’s more of a bonus signing though, on top of a good centre mid and striker.

    .
  • Good bit of low risk, high reward business! What a start to the day!
  • More short, tricky, midfielders. At least this one isn't injured.
  • Not sure about this one - whenever I have seen him in recent years, he has looked overweight and a bit disinterested - will be interesting to see if LB can get a tune out of him.

At 33 you have to wonder how much gas he has left in the tank, and how much he fancies the scrap that we are about to get into at the bottom.
  • Brings experience and skill, another body and more options. Potentially a bit of an attitude problem but Bowyer won't stand for that very long. A half season loan makes this pretty low risk, high reward for me.

Better late than never, hopefully more to come.
  • Defo has a bit of an attitude on him, in the Sunderland doco on Netflix, he basically lays all of the blame for the situation at the door of Chris Coleman, because 'he doesn't shout at us enough'.

If he were the only signing I would be worried, but like you say 2-3 more, and I will be a bit happier, particularly if we get a bit of a 'wow' signing, that would give everyone at the club a big lift going into the business end of the season.
