Time for a new England thread. 
We will be wearing shirts with names and squad numbers on in Test cricket from now on starting with the Ashes. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/47623980 It's an ICC decision and being a traditionalist I really do not approve. Stinks of commercialism.

    I get the reasoning.  Just seems a bit sad, I like the look of plain whites, something quaint and charming about it.

    I’m not sure I’m happy with the ICC World Cup and The Ashes in the same thread,  as a traditionalist  I don’t like it !

    I've got tickets for a couple of games to "feel involved" but have no desire to see any more of the group stages as it goes on for so long

    The best CWC set up was the four groups of four around 2007 ish?

    But then India got knocked out early and the TV broadcasters lost out on a load of money.

    Ever since, the ICC has done it’s best to make sure the top teams make it through the first round.

    Will the players themselves get to choose their Test shirt numbers?  If so, I imagine Root will be 66 again.  

    Or should they be 1-11?

    They should be but I suspect they'll go with squad numbers same as the ODIs

    The ODI squad numbers are a bit messy really as players don't change them to become 1-11 in the way football squad numbers often change over a career, so you have a mixture of chosen number (Root 66) and other rather random ones

    I've got tickets for a couple of very niche games at the World Cup. I've got New Zealand vs Afghanistan down at Taunton & Bangladesh vs South Africa at The Oval

    English player doing the business in the IPL (Bairstow ton, Curran hattrick) really sends down a marker that we'll be one of the teams to beat in the WC

    Curran also opened the batting scoring 20 from 9 balls. Then took 4-11 including a hat trick to win the game and MOTM

    Its called the rainy season. Get ready for scorching hot weather afterwards, especially as mid July is when we usually play Welling in a PSF & it's usually sweltering.

    We're World #1 in ODI's and favourites for the WC! I think we've been putting down the marker for almost 2 years.
     My one worry is, and Vaughn and Agnew often make this point, we are prone to having an unexplained absolute mare every now and then in ODI's. More so than any other top team and often in the middle of a series that we are totally dominating. If we do have one in the WC lets just hope it's in an early game and not the semi or worse!

    Perhaps not for this thread, but the ECB are finally planning to bring in a compensation scheme for when richer counties sign young talent from poorer counties. 

    Some of the Test group counties like Notts and Warks hardly produce any players, and instead just poach them.

    MCC have just released some tickets for the Lords Ashes Test, debenture returns etc. Have to be quick, go to lords.org. I got 2 for days 1 and 2. They ain't cheap mind!

    Without a doubt, he's a fantastic player. Another strong performance tonight. 

    Personally think he will miss out on the squad but be included in the warm ups, then we might see a late change.

    That starts as comfortable favourites on home turf.

    To me it's questionable whether he ought to play for England at all, as I don't like people swapping countries in this way

    However, if he is eligible to play for England it's silly to say that he should wait until after the WC as it would be unfair on the player left out.
