Yes, it’s the fans’ fault that he didn’t quite kick on - even though he had over 150+ games to prove himself…
Not at all, but the whispers are that he turned an offer down
  • He can play a killer pass but too many are poorly executed, He can score with a long range shot but too many fly off target. He can run around and compete but also let people go. If you look at what he can do, it gives you hope and I would say this season has been his best and he has improved.  He made me think that we might want to keep him as a squad player, but it could be a positive sign if we think we can get better squad players.

I wish him well and he may do well at a different club. I think he is definitely a League One player but would be one of the better League Two ones. He might be a good signing for a team like MK Dons.
Yeah I had the same thought about MK. Good pitch and a big pitch really suits him as he’s got the passing range and the energy to get around it. I do think he will have league 1 offers though, could see him at Exeter possibly replacing Archie Collins in their midfield
  • I think League Two would be best for his career but due to his age I wouldn’t be surprised if a decent League One club took him on as he won’t be expensive.
  • I know a lot of people on here think he’s been given too many chances, and don’t think he’s consistent enough and don’t rate him, but…

Last season I think he got 10 assists (the most) this season he got 7 assists, (2nd) now unless we are going to sign KDB, the person filling his boots will have to easily get more assists, otherwise what was the point of letting him go?

It will be interesting to see who we sign as his replacement, and whether they do get more assists, or whether he is even replaced, a La Washington, otherwise in 6 - 12 months time people will be slagging off the club, and questioning why we let him go.

All the best for the future Albie, you always put in a shift for the club, you’re still young and can only improve with time.
He got 6 assists this season and 8 last season, 7 in the league (1 in the Pizza Cup). The thing with Albie is though that while his assist record is decent he needs to offer a huge amount more in terms of control and he's just not capable of that. That's part of the reason we score so highly but concede so many. Not actually that much use getting 6 assists if your inability to control the midfield means that your assists are cancelled out and bigger teams roll you over because there's no fight in the middle. Albie was third for assists this season, second in the league, but we didn't lack for creativity. JRS, Payne, Fraser, Dobson and Leaburn all contributed enough for us to be 6th highest scorers in the league. We don't need an assister in that role to replace Albie, we need a midfielder who sets tempo, provides a screen for transitions before the ball gets to Dobson, moves to provide an out ball and helps build a platform for team attacks. It's a difficult role and Albie just can't consistently do it, that's where the problem lies. If we sign a midfielder in that role who only gets 2 or 3 assists but stops us being run through every game and keeps the ball moving through the phases, making us a better team then that will be a massive trade up for us
This post sums it up nicely for me

We lost control of the middle of the park so often this season which was a huge contributory factor on why we finished so low
  • Now Karl Robinson is at Leeds, I can see him going there, going by the way he was singing his praises recently whilst doing comms for us.  :D
  • I feel for young Albie but he's had a good run this season and come up short. However as many have said we need a quality replacement and that's what bothers me the most. We all see a retained list and for the first time in years most lifers have agreed with it which is unusual but what's the plan now... In reality nobody has a scoobie but I fear the answer will be change the faces but not the quality. Hope I'm wrong.

I think that's more the managements fault rather than a single player.

Yep agree, the management should have recruited better than Kilkenny to replace Morgan in that role to give us more control in the middle of the park, neither Kilkenny or Morgan were going to give us that control

I don't think Morgan was/is good enough in that role. I do like him alongside someone who is as Morgan can make things happen. jfc and him in the middle could of been a good partnership at that time.
A lot of the time he is stuck on the wing.
When he does try something and it doesn't come off there is a large amount of supporters give him hell for it. Yet there is plenty of midfielders who do next to nothing because they do nothing adventures but get plaudits for keeping the ball and ray Wilkins it sidewards. Rather have some ambition personally.

  • Did his best and always sensed his performances were impacted by his emotions and self-belief levels. A very decent passer but if you are the box-to-box in a midfield three, you need to be able to chip in with 6-10 goals consistently and provide an even greater threat than Albie ever proved he could do.

As long as better replaces him, and that is a big if, in my mind, it is probably best all round. Good luck throughout your career Albie!

I think Morgan will get a decent midtable L1 club, I think people here slightly undervalue him.

In a recent game, Albie did a 40 yard pass out to the left  wing and then in the same move the ball came back to him on the right where he put a pin point cross in for Rak Sakyi who somehow missed. It would have put Morgan in double figures for Assists.

A definite enigma of a player and this could be the making of him where he can make a fresh start at 23 and improve on his shooting as he should be scoring 10 a season with assists in Double figures.

I noticed he was criticized for not tracking back but it was Morgan in many games doing the runs up front and closing down on the opposition keeper. Look who did many dummy runs when JRS cut back onto his left foot.

He may get a chance at Wimbledon, Colchester or Gillingham to prove his self but I think he can be a decent League 1 player if he totally commits to his career but is he hungry enough?

Ironic that most of his best games have been this season amoung the 35 apps.

I wish him well and excited that we are going to improve on Albie because all the Matt Smith's, Kilkenny, McGrandles, Gilbey, etc, etc haven't been.

So I look forward to a top 6 midfielder we are going to bring in. We live in hope but I won't hold my breath.

  • He definitely converted me from a should let go player to one we should keep as a squad player. I was thinking in terms of maximising the so so budget so letting him go could be a good sign if a Powell like recruitment ensues. If it doesn't it could be an issue.

@Swisdom I would rather hear from you if Morgan or Inniss were offered a new short  contract rather than someone who goes down the pub where a relation of Ryan or Albie have a pint or two.

Cryptic answers are welcome Steve !

Seems weird. I feel like I have followed his whole career so far, from development level into the men’s game.
Sad and sorry to see him go. He will still have a good few years more in the game.
I hope all the attendant circumstances regarding his departure are decent and civilised.
Best wishes and good luck for the future Albie.
Feel free to keep following him wherever he goes Seth.
    ;-)
  • Sorry to see him go myself. I'm not convinced we'll bring in anyone better and I can see Albie being a curse when he plays against us in the future.

I tend to look out for all academy graduates in their future careers, I like it when they have a pathway in the game.
  • He could be the next modric or more likely Barry bannan. Good luck Albie. Best to get away from this toxic club and it's fans.
    Do you mean…Luka Modric?

Has a gig lined up allegedly. Not as surprised as some will be when he is back in the league above before us.
A little surprised if that’s true, but in fairness he’s had a good season and is only 23 so makes some sense. Really don’t think that’s what he needs though, will just be more of the same for him. Not being a nailed on starter and his development suffering due to being in and out of the team.

Think he’d be better off going to bottom half league 1/top end of league 2 where he’s guaranteed to play and won’t be dropped so quickly if he has a bad game so he can try and be more consistent
  • Not saying he'll be playing his trade the league above this season if the rumour is right a promotion contender - could mean newly relegated or failed to go up this year.

Hope its not Wigan, they seem a bit of a mess

The amount of players not rated by Charlton fan/critics or the manager at the time who go on to play up a division or two is high.
Morgan Fox has just been released but has been playing in the Championship, obviously Simon Francis played higher and Clarke the striker couldn't get in at Cafc but had a good scoring record at sheff United.
Michael Smith has been a decent number 9 at Rotherham and now Wednesday spending time in the Champ above Cafc.
Neil Etheridge has had a good career including the Championship.

Being released from Cafc or being sold for a fee can kick start your career not ruin it.

More chance of me playing In the championship than. Him.
And I'm 68 years old  and over 17 stone

For some reason people seem to assume that he'll only move to nearby clubs (i.e. London or Kent), despite him having no family commitments.
