Patrick Bauer was a giant of a man and with a tad more pace may have reached the highest level. With just 7 appearances in the last 3 seasons mainly because of injury for Preston, his career has surely ended at 32 but BFG will be much loved by Charlton fans for ever by the orgasmic end to the Play off final in May 2019.
Will always remember the day he signed. I was working at Bexley Council at the time and I’d just finished work for the day. As I was walking past the swallow hotel, he was going in with Tracy. I said ‘welcome to Charlton’. He stopped said thank you and shook my hand. He then went on to say how delighted he was to be signing. He asked me how long I’d been a fan and what it was like living in The area. A proper, nice young man. I’d have that young Patrick Bauer back in a heartbeat. Good luck to him.
Play-off hero Patrick Bauer will return to The Valley tomorrow to be part of our legends parade ahead of kick-off 🤩
Who will ever forget the last minute Wembley winner that got us into the Championship ? Alas the very good team that got us there lost half its members before the start of the next season I won't be at the Valley, but I know the FBG will get a hero's reception when he steps onto the pitch tomorrow
Without wishing to piss on everyone's chips, the larger we make this event, the more history tells me we should be more worried. We don't have a good track of beam-back's and 'Operations', do we!!??

You wait until Paul Bacon and Kenny Achampong do the tunnel jump at the end .
I love PB and he will forever be a hero but injuries have done a number on him , not worth the wages he'd command regardless of league.
I never understand this thinking ⬆ He might have been on decent Championship money but he's not been a decent championship layer for a couple of seasons - HTF is he going to command those same wages at his next job? If he wants to carry on playing and is fit'n'strong enough to do so, he'll command whatever the going rate is at the level he performs. Good luck to him if some halfwit showoff like Sandgaard gives him the sort of contract he gave Chuks but that ain't likely is it? Our current recruitment seems to be better configured than that.
If PB is half the player he was 6 years ago, he'd be twice the player MG was before Christmas and a match for Alex Mitchell now. If he needs to carry on earning, he'll play at whatever level he gets an offer, there's plenty of fulltimers in the national league earning money few of us currently pull down.
Love the BFG and he is of course a legend who will always be welcomed back as a visitor but sometimes it's best to leave things as just a beautiful memory rather than try to relive the past.
I would say in the case of a defender who is the wrong side of 30 and has played a small amount of football in the past 3 years, this is one of those cases.

Yeah. It's getting that feel about it.. We're trying too hard. Try and treat it like a normal game and What will be will be.

Wouldn't like him back though, injuries well and truly taken their toll, and I wouldn't want the good memories tarnished.
There's a pattern here - Curbs/Mendonca/'98 to follow?

Sadly true.
