I get your point. But he’s earning £20k a month, reportedly, it’s a bit different to an office job in town.

Its a shame football, whether it’s Man Utd or Welling, is all about money.
I am sorry, but it is literally not different at all. Plenty of people work in high profile, higher paid jobs which are not football and move to other companies to earn more money.

Why wouldn't it be,  being a footballer is hardly a vocation is it. He's got concrete proof that he's worth more than what we are offering currently.  He is right to not be happy, particularly when the club were offered good money, but I'm sure he will accept it.  I doubt he will be signing a new contract in the next few weeks unless we match Brenford's terms, but once he's settled back down if we make a sensible offer he may sign it.  Or he may not and take his chances in Jan or at the end of the season.

Remember he's not only missed out on an increase in wages but also any loyalty bonus from us on the way out and signing on fee on the way in to Brentford.  That could be £500k as well
  • The biggest test of man management will be how Bowyer gets the best from Lyle... Bowyer's down to earth manner is a huge asset and something that could see this club genuinely rising back up...
  • Whilst it's all conjecture he signed for Sheffield United after Falkirk.  They were very high payers for League One level, all his subsequent transfers he probably maintained or improved his salary.

Taking into account the wages and money wasted on Ajose, and virtually every striker signed during the Duchatelet area, he's the one player who deserves Champ wages and we definitely need to keep.  Maybe not at Brentford wages, but he deserves a significant pay rise
  • He's a big boy, score goals and he will get a much improved contract or a well paid move, if we do well he will want to stay, Brentford might be just ahead us currently but under Bowyer we can quickly overtake them, Roland dependant of course.

  • Must be a bitter blow to Bows, you can see how much he has improved Taylors game, and even addressed making him a better all round player, which he has done, after all that hard work he wants out. Without Bows, Taylor would most likely still be a standard league 1 striker. Cant blame Taylor however, wanting to better his finances long-term.

If fit, he will definitely start on Saturday.  And if not fit, he will probably start on Saturday.
    Agree.
Lyle Taylor despite becoming Scott Parker according to a few cockwombles. Will play, has to play, needs to feel love and will get one if not 2 yellow card against the potters.

Lyle Taylor was only on Twitter for about a year according to one source ?
That's right I heard it from the horse's mouth and welcome to the mandatory world where you can go from Hero to Zero by making a career change because your boss has engineered it.
You couldn't make it up, But folk do to suit their narrative and to pass on fake news.

Has Lyle Taylor gone from prince charming to the panto villain ?
Oh yes he has, oh no he hasn't.
99.9% of Cafc fans will give the answer that Lyle Taylor Baby is alive and kicking.
Off the soapbox Sam... he wanted to leave not engineered by the boss.  It's disappointing for people.  No need for people to throw abuse about but he is hero worshipped by plenty so i can therefore understand people being upset.

Twitter isn't a place for those easily offended, it can be really cruel.  Lyle is now off twitter but that comes across as bit sulky to me.  He is more loved on there from what i can see and should just mute the abusers.

Decent point about muting the abusers B, but I think he’s maybe thinking just let it die down completely for the time being so as to stop a lot of the furore.  Who knows.  I think we’re seeing a huge change in the way the world interacts with one another in general because of social media, certainly football.  When I did the upbeats walk with Paul Mortimer a couple of years ago, he talked me and whoever was next to him through how from a very early age, pro footballers are taught to be wary of and learn how much interaction they should have with fans for a number of reasons, which means they (in his day anyway), tend to socialise with teammates and I guess a certain level of institutionalisation kicks in.

Football has grown massively in popularity since then and social media has just given the whole world a platform to interact and communicate in a way that wasn’t foreseeable 10 years ago.  It’s good and it’s bad.  Lyle, being what I would class as social media friendly, confident and outgoing, embraces it as a way of showing his personality, and his personality isn’t going to be for everyone.  I think social media creates a false sense of familiarisation and ‘relationships’.  Here is a good example.  There are many posters who I like and respect and think I would get on with, but we may not have met and don’t actually know one another.  And these ‘relationships/interactions’ are on a community we all contribute to and access daily.

This whole episode is something I see that could become more prevalent over the years.  I like the player interactions on social media as I think it helps form a bond with the fans, but unfortunately there will always be a minority who think it means they can say and interact how they like, and for players they’ll just need to be a bit more mindful of what they say and how things may escalate
  • I like your style too, cuddles  ;)
  • Hopefully some of our fans can abuse Taylor tomorrow based on some rumours from Twatter - great stuff.
  • the only thing i always think in these situations.

at 5pm last saturday he was quite happy to be at charlton even posting on instagram his delight at bagging on championship debut

so he was quite happy to be earning as per contract then.

i think he should maybe get a 50% rise now then if possible raise it by more if people come looking in january.

bit like a bonus system at work, if we have a good year i get a decent drink at xmas.
  • Lyle will get over it, he's a big lad and there's worse thing in life than playing for charlton  Brentford.

Of course he was, and then he would probably be happier earning three times as much as someone offered to him.
  • He has a contract at Charlton, it’s his choice if he sees it out (the term “running down” a contract is nonsense and unfair as it is never applied to players who aren’t doing well and won’t be offered a new deal). At the end of his contract if he chooses to go somewhere else for less, more or the same money he is fully entitled to and he has no obligation to Charlton Athletic.

  • dangle the decent contract in front of him now I reckon....if anyone has earned a 3 year offer then it's him
Not going to happen with Duchatalet in charge though, EA...

he must of known clubs would come in for him, he was the best striker in league 1 last year

the whole twitter business is strange but just part of modern life.

Rich people don't get rich by leaving money on the table.
  • Bowyer:

"He was disappointed that things didn't quite go a certain way, but he knew the situation that was going on and is ready to get his head down."

Especially when Bows told him to F off home
  • The abuse Taylor got, and he had not even gone ,or as far as I know ,asked to go,was utterly out of order. If he plays on saturday, which I hope he does,I trust the more mentally stable supporters(which is the vast majority)will let him know what we think of him and how much we appreciate his efforts on the pitch.Lyle, ignore these stupid, cowardly moronic pricks, who hide behind there phones and keyboards, they are not what Charlton is about.
Crikey. I think this is the first time that I have agreed 100 per cent with what you have written.

    Why is it strange?

A bloke who uses a social media platform to have what are usually quiet jovial interactions with fans all of a sudden starts to receive vile abuse because it is rumoured he may be considering moving to another club for 3 times the salary he is currently earning.

Just because football fans are 'passionate' and pay money to follow their team everywhere does not give them any ownership or right at all to have a say in what a player decides to do with his own future.

No wonder he wants to take some time away from that.
this vile abuse i've seen a few snake comments.

but has anyone actually got any of this vile abuse on record? the snake and greedy comments - you get them - i think its ridiculous and childish but you do get them at every club.

if anything i have seen more tweets and post about how much lyle wants to be here - he doesnt if a better offer comes he would be gone ( not saying thats wrong ) but the notion that he only wants to play for charlton is bollocks and its wearing thin.

hes a good player but hes played 1 game and scored 1 goal.

if by xmas he hasn't scored more than 10 people will be moaning - likely the same people that were moaning about him leaving that we didnt accept 4million for him  - i have no doubt that if the toney offer was accepted then lyle would be gone, even that isnt great as it shows him no loyalty.
  • Has he ever, ‘kissed the badge’?
Don't think I’ve seen that personally.
  • Has anyone actually seen any abuse on twitter? I'm not saying there hasn't been, just seems that the majority of it is outpouring support and people begging him to stay.
  • He's holding out for the 25K a week when we get promoted to EPL next season after scoring 25 goals this season (no pressure Lyle)!
