It’s not up for debate. His refusal to play is a breach of his contract. He is contracted until the end of the month. He should be available for selection until then. He holds all the cards though. If he was forced to play he would put in minimal effort. Bowyer knows that and couldn’t pick him. I doubt the club will even bother to sanction him.
If he was forced to play by some legality of some description I’d wager my house on him tweaking a hamstring within 5 minutes.
He cannot be forced to play - he has free choice. But equally he has to take responsibility for and the consequences of that choice.
Dipped into a Rangers forum for a quick peek and they are not overly impressed by Lyle’s actions. Quite a few “do we want to sign a known troublemaker” type of comment. I do wonder if he will have just caused a few suitors to pause for thought. Hope so.
Seen similar on Twitter. A lot of comments along the lines of ‘refusing to play for Charlton if the season resumes says a lot about his character. We don’t want him here’. A lot of fans of other clubs have certainly gone off of him.

A proven goalscorer worth between £5-£10m at current prices....for free.
Potential suitors couldn’t give a stuff.
And we know he’s not a bad egg. All he did for Betty etc. He’s made a mistake with this ethically and PR wise but not for his bank balance. Still don’t like it. A mistake.
I don't have a lot of respect for him bailing out - best to forget about him. He's let the club and its fans down.
So you go for a job interview and they offer you three times your current salary.
You accept the offer but they insist you start tomorrow or they'll find someone else.
"Oh well, I can't accept - I must honour the month's notice required by my current employer."
Go home and explain it to your family...….
Not sure that’s at all relevant to this situation. Given he can’t play for another club tomorrow it is highly unlikely any suitor would lay that condition down. Bizarre comment to make.
Very disappointed about Lyle I thought he would stay to the end of his legal contract to Charlton Athletic. the Bullshit excuse about getting injured could go against him in the eyes of potential buyers as it could mean he injured easily and is now made of class? i also think he has let down a far bigger and better man then he will ever be...Lee Bowyer. a great Shane I thought he had more integrity, but he was a great championship striker and gave many of us pleasure when he played for Charlton. he is now history!!
No way would say Brentford have told him not to play for the rest of the season, especially as we are due to play them. That would be considered a massive breach of the rules.
Football operates separately from normal life, it's not like a normal job where in your last few weeks you hand over your responsibilities, tidy your desk and go for long lunch breaks, as the last game in your contract is potentially just as important as your 1st or 34th. Clubs aren't stupid, if we were relegated with 2 games to go, I'm sure Bowyer would be happy to leave Taylor out.
The integrity of the league season relies on it, and it's this structure which generates massive public interest and makes lots of players very rich. If the FA AND PFA had any sense of morals, they would instruct its members to play the full season, and for clubs to extend all contracts until the season is ended. These are extraordinary times, and everyone has to show solidarity to the wider game.
Doubt very much he will sign for a Premier League side. Even teams like Bournemouth & Burnley spend millions on players that are miles better than Taylor.
I expect him to go to a high Championship side, probably a recently relegated Premier League one, like Fulham.

I think if you explained it more accurately, it would be you going home and explaining to your family that you were refusing to work your notice at your current job because you're afraid of getting a papercut that would harm your chances of starting well at the new office. I think your family would rightly think you're a bit of a dick

I do get this argument and you have to try and be fair to Taylor.
But he is a footballer so the analogy doesn't work for me.
All you are asking him to do his serve notice professionally. Playing football is the job so honour your notice.
If you were a paid stunt man you'd be obliged to carry on jumping out of planes.
Taylor will be remembered as either one of the first to do something that caught on and became common, or as a total wally.
This isn't a transfer at stake, where the club needs to protect its asset. Nor is it going to trigger an unfavorable extension. This is something new and I hope its seen as a mistake. Team in a relegation dogfight. Man up. Go and train and bring something positive.

Aside from it being a nonsense analogy, it would also be the current employers right to take legal recourse to prevent you from working for another company during that period.
I’m surprised any club in the current climate is guaranteeing a new and highly attractive contract outside of the Premier League. Finances are precarious for all now and salary caps etc must be on the agenda.
I’d assume a revised downwards offer being made by his new club must be a distinct possibility.

Possibly the worst comparison I’ve seen on Charlton Life
Serve your notice...means you are contractually obliged to fulfill your contract of employment i.e. carrying out your duties and responsibilities of work until your agreed end of employment contract
Garden leave - is a compromise agreement reached between an employer and employee to leave and not work for anyone else until the end of your notice period
all of the above applies to the common person
NOT TO A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER
Personally after this “(not) LOYAL TAYLOR” shenanigans every footballer should drop the professional from their title !🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬

brentford 15/8
bournemouth 3/1
Rangers 4/1
when they are a once in a lifetime opportunity it shows how far we have fallen!!

he is also 30 and now potentially injury prone 👎

As long as you are getting paid, do your job.
