Athletic we stand, divided we fall

  • Steve - You have driven me to post on here for the first time in ages. You can try the call to arms but being a Charlton fan doesn't mean we have to check out our brains at the door or go to matches out of blind loyalty to watch utter crap.

In over 50 years of supporting the club this is the most dire situation I have seen us in, and that includes both when we nearly went out of business and when we left the Valley. At least then you felt there were people involved in running the club who wanted to try to take it forward and had some football knowledge.

The strength of the squad as of today and two defeats in the first two games was entirely predictable. Slade, Meire can say whatever they like but it won't wash.

Personally I don't know why anyone would want to put themselves through the grief of going to see the load of old Cobblers they will likely see on Saturday but hey, it's a free world.
  • Agree we shouldn't be divided in the face of this crisis, and that's why I'd urge all fans to boycott 100% until these wreckers leave our club. Even £1 put into the pockets of this regime is complicity with their management of a once-proud institution. The club is being destroyed regardless of how loud people sing on Saturday, but I'd sooner see a ruined club in the hands of the fans in the Conference than in those of the very people who have caused the destruction.

I need to find a new curry house. There's one down in Hayes that delivers to Bromley, but they're bloody slow.

For Chinese you can't beat a bit of Ho Luk though, I shit you not - they genuinely deliver within about 15 minutes.. Even if you're ordering a meal for 4 people. Top quality nosh too

Do you have to pay extra for that?

  • So what is your response to your 8 year old daughter then, Steve? You're going like it or not. It's all too easy to criticise. You need to maintain your support. You need to turn it around on Saturday and get fully behind the team and the management.

I've got to say, from what you've said she seems to have a far better grip of the situation than you.

Mmmm, my response is that I did not renew her season ticket.
Now that could be due to her views on the current regime and how the club is being mis-managed by RD and KM and that she believes non-attendance to home games is the right thing to do. But being 8, maybe not.

Good thing they deliver then, keep eating like that and soon you won't be able to get outside the front door....
  • So @cafc_steve in January you wrote.

39 years following Charlton and never have I felt so despondent about the future of my club. RD and KM have between them torn the heart from within the club and alienated the vast majority of the fan base. I understand that RD is a successful businessman and so he must understand that running a business that offends the "customers" is not a successful model. I am not a customer, I am a fan. He has bought an English football club that are one tier below the financial promised land of the Premier League. As a business man surely you look at creating a plan that aims towards this. The alternative we are being given is a plan to take us to League One and a huge loss in all revenue. No one benefits. However, there is hope in that there are equally poor teams in the bottom 5 not winning games. And most frustratingly we have players who have ability and you don't lose ability. They have the ability to play our way out of the relegation places but it is now a confidence thing. This has been ripped from them by a succession of inadequate and inept coaching teams who do not understand the English Championship.
RD needs to sell while CAFC is still a viable business.
RD needs to sell so I can have my Charlton back

whats your views now, since it has got a lot worse?

My views then were and are correct. We are in League One. RD and KM would do us all well if they sold up and left. But this does not stop me from supporting the team as I have done so for the previous 39 seasons and wanting them to succeed whoever is in charge.
Fair enough but not what you said in your first post

" Is this the fault of RD and KM? Do we know? There is rumour and second guessing but we support through the bad times. Been there, done that in the 80's.
It is all too easy to criticise."

You then went on to attack other fans by saying that they could go to West Ham.

If you want to say "support the team, not the regime" them fine. That's a slogan of the protesters and has been for some time.
In response, I am wondering how much of the recent inactivity in players coming in is down to RD and KM. Where we are now and the relegation is absolutely on them, no doubts. But there appeared to be a real move for players the fans have bemoaned not signing and three came in early on and appeared at Welling. Is it down to RD and KM further players have not arrived? Ajose and Novak were statement purchases and both were courted by championship sides and the sort of signings that did not happen/got blocked in previous years. This is not me showing support for the regime but questioning why the transfer activity has dried up. But I guess this can be seen as supporting the regime if this is a singular view audience rather than a genuine question put forward.

And as for "attacking" supporters but suggesting visiting West Ham this is a bit strong for a clearly tongue in cheek response to the creative curry house analogy. But again, it appears this can be seen differently.

I do believe in supporting the team and not the regime but not to the extent where I cannot have a viewpoint, such as the recent transfer inactivity, where I question whether the current regime is totally responsible and is the only reason. I will be supporting the team on Saturday, as I have done for the past 39 seasons, and will continue to do so. I will consider each protest on its own merit and support them accordingly as I did last season
  • I am not disputing the support at the 2 away games which has been magnificent, save the moronic few. It is Saturday at The Valley where our support will be judged. I have been informed only 8000 home area seats were bought by end of play on Monday. Our fan base is bigger than that, so let's show that.

    Who informed you ?

if true then it's a fucking disgrace, there should be at least 10000 OUTSIDE the Valley protesting against this disgraceful regime

Not if you get the coffee

Negative, pessimistic, etc. Discussion and argument about whether to boycott games, get "free" tickets, demonstrate outside the stadium.
We have lost 2 games, failed to score in both. We need to turn it around on Saturday and need our own fans to be fully behind the team and management. There was full backing to Slade's appointment in the summer and we need to maintain this and support him with a squad clearly lacking depth. Is this the fault of RD and KM? Do we know? There is rumour and second guessing but we support through the bad times. Been there, done that in the 80's.

Sorry steve, I was an eternal optimist, these f***ers have taken that from me.

I do not and will not support this man Russell Slade as he seems almost as much a yes man as Murray.

Right now despite it being early days we are at risk of hitting the clubs lowest ever league finish... I won't support that.

We aren't good enough and we don't have enough depth. We also don't have a good enough manager akin to Curbs to drag us through.
