A bit of netting goes up and you wet yourselves. Get a fucking grip.
If it was the cinema and they had put up a net between you and the screen I guess you'd be the one telling all the other patrons to shush as it's not a problem;
And if a fire broke out behind you and the only way out was to wait for an usherette to come along and cut the netting down you'd be the one telling everybody to get a fucking grip
That is so realistic and pertinent an analogy that I have no answer to it.
It's an extreme example but there's a point underpinning it. In what other situation would the putting up of netting like that in front of (one targeted group of) paying customers be acceptable? Would it be okay to do it at a gig without making it clear in advance? A tennis, cricket or rugby match?
We do not have a culture of sporting events taking place behind barriers like this...well maybe cage fighting I suppose.
At the Olympics, they had netting at either end at the Hockey, presumably to protect the crowd from high shots
Maybe but I assume other emergency exits were clearly communicated to spectators beforehand.
There's clearly not a strong comparison to hillsborough being made here but I am keen to know if the club were actually in their rights to put the netting up without warning to supporters before.
If there had been a fire in the concourse then I myself would've run straight forward instinctively as I'm sure many others would have too and what would have followed would've been horrendous. The action of putting it up was far far out of proportion. If the game had been abandoned then so what, there'd have been a replay a few days later.
The club may have consulted the football league & relevant H&S advice on this but I really do think they were completely wrong to not inform fans and I think it should be pursued if it isn't being already.
If the netting remains it will mean our projectiles will need to be smaller and heavier to either go through the netting of over it. Golf balls or stones for example
I would strongly suggest they remove the netting and allow us the freedom of beach balls and alike.
