Queens Park Rangers v Charlton Athletic
Saturday 9 April 2016 … 3pm Kick-Off
Referee: Andrew Madley (West Yorkshire)
IntroductionIn my last Match Preview (Ipswich Town) I wrote about how August felt a million years ago, I wondered where the season had gone and I stated that we needed to concentrate on the games to come, well if there was ever a match which described the story of our season then Tuesday was surely it...
Yes we’ve conceded a high number of goals: 70 to be exact with only Bolton conceding more (actually prior to Tuesday no one had conceded more than us) yet it is in front of goal where we have struggled the most, only Nottingham Forest have scored less than us and looking back over the season: Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Cardiff and Ipswich are all 0-0 matches where the Addicks should really have taken three points but a lack of conviction in front of goal ensure we only took the one.
This Saturday marks our last London Derby of the season (whether you can call it a derby is open for debate seeing that there are so many of them), we’re pretty much desperate for wins, so to beat
Queens Park Rangers this Weekend means we need goals… and plenty of them!!
The OppositionName: Queens Park Rangers |
Manager: Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
Ground: Loftus Road |
Nickname: The Hoops
In a sense this last week has seen Charlton face a side where its Manager has some sort of connection with the Addicks; last Saturday we hosted Gary Rowett who as a player played 13-times for the Addicks, whilst on Tuesday night we faced Mick McCarthy who (despite never having represented Charlton in any form) began his managerial career with our fierce rivals: Millwall.
This Saturday sees us come up against our third connection in
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, a Striker who was part of our final Premier League season and a man who first entered Management with Belgian side: Antwerp…
He came to England and took charge of Burton Albion guiding them to the brink of League One promotion before moving on to Queens Park Rangers earlier this season, he’s not had the best of starts at his current job yet the future looks bright for an ex-player who only turned up at Sparrows Lane to collect his pay cheque.
Charlton Team NewsThe good form of Nick Pope rumbles on meaning that Stephen Henderson will surely be limited to the bench once more this Saturday… On Tuesday night we also saw the return of Chris Solly whilst
Patrick Bauer was missing from the U21s the other day so should be back on the bench.
It is in Midfield where the biggest questions will be… Johann Gudmundsson was forced off after only 20mins with a head injury so could be missing this Saturday whilst Alou Diarra appears to soldier on regardless of what is wrong with him, should the latter be injured you’d expect
Johnnie Jackson to come back into the side.
My opinion for what it’s worth… We need our best players on that pitch!!
Pope
Solly … Fanni … Teixeira … Fox
Gudmundsson … Cousins … Diarra … Lookman
Vetokele … Harriott
Substitutes Bench: Henderson … Motta … Bauer … Jackson … Bergdich … Makienok … Sanogo
Comments
We need a win, I'm saying we're going to win, you know I think we're going to win so lets get those god-damned three points!!!!
One player who cannot play (I presume) is Young, as he is on loan from QPR; because of this, I would play Harriott on the wing and give Lookman a start from the bench.
My expected team would be -
Pope
Solly
Fanni
Teixeira
Fox
Cousins
Jackson
Gudmundsson
Harriott
Vetokele
Sanogo
Subs: Henderson, Motta, Lennon, Bauer, Lapslie, Makienok, Lookman
Poyet ought to be the direct replacement, but is completely out of favour. Jacko to me just isn't up to that sort of defensive midfield role, while Ba is more out of favour than Poyet!
It's not popular, but Solly can do a job there, if Bauer is considered match fit perhaps he can play there?
For me:
.......Pope
Motta....Fanni....Tex...Fox
JBG*.....Cousins(c)...Diarra....Lookman
..............Makienok....Vetokele
Subs: Henderson, Bauer, Solly, Yun, Jackson, Harriott, Sanogoals
*If JBG isn't fit, and for a mild concussion five days is right around the period of safe recovery, I'd have Motta on the right and Solly at RB.
I can't see Bauer being thrown into such a position, though I think that he or Fanni could, if need be. I'd suspect Solly will play there is Diarra isn't fit, as, for all his leadership skills, Jackson just doesn't have the legs for a 4-4-2.
Interesting though that Riga has said in his Pre-Match comments that Ceballos is injured...?
As you kind of want Jackson playing where he did against Birmingham i.e. coming on for a wide player and then playing behind the Strikers whilst in front of both Cousins and Diarra.
People arent going to like this stat... We've only won ONCE this season when neither of those two are playing which was at Rotherham.
We need someone who can take a decent corner.....
Hate to say it but I'd happily send him back to West Ham
