Hants you are a proper fan unlike some charlatans.

    Who are the charlatans then???

If being a " proper" fan is agreeing with you then there are very few fans left at the Valley.

Give me some reasons to believe your overly optimist fantasy view of our clubs position?!

Don't know about a proper fan 1965, but you certainly are a proper something
  • I did not wish to start another row on here, just stating that I never want my team to lose, regardless of who is the owner, CEO, or manger (or Head Coach). We are all fans, just with different opinions.

Spot on Hants. I'm not here to argue but as soon as I get optimistic I get slated. I know for a fact I am on the terraces all home and quite a few away games. I'm sure a lot of arguers on here have never actually been! Wanting Charlton to lose is a bit like cutting off my nose to spite my face imho.

Would I be right in guesing you are aged 19 max?

I never want Charlton to lose, but if it got rid of the owner, or got him to change his approach I can see how it could benefit the club in the long term if we did. The problem is, I won’t preach to fans who want Charlton to lose for what they see is a positive reason, as they may be right. Of course, if the outcome they are seeking does not occur despite the losses, they will probably be wrong. What the ultra-positive people fail to understand – with a great deal of arrogance IMO – is that there isn’t enough of them to sustain the club. The club needs all fans, including fickle ones, that won’t post on here, to thrive, even survive. Not engaging and consequently losing the fanbase rather than growing it is the issue and fans saying these people should be more like them is ridiculous. All support consists of fans with different levels of commitment and any business that fails to understand this will fail. It feels like the current regime doesn’t understand that. What I would never do is tell other fans that they should support the club in the same way as me – how they support the club isn't up to me or my business. I will also not consider those who have a different outlook to be better or worse fans than me. That is the arrogant bit!
  • I feel like we are going round in circles.

    I know

Drew I am 50 as my name implies. I haven't missed a home game since 1975. What has age got to do with anything?
Every home game since age of 10. Hats off to that.

Respect to your home attendance by the way.

Nothing really, but if we are being pedantic and taking your name as gospel then I really should be addressing you as Curbs. Anyway, as others have said, fair play for not missing a home game since before I was even born.

That will be our army of glory-hunting, armchair fans who just like to hang out on a Charlton forum to bask in the reflected glory of true fans like yourself.
  • I wouldn't be against wanting us to lose if I felt it would make a difference but Roland appoints who he wants regardless of results so whats the point.

They are a great rock and roll band, playing at Brixton on saturday night.
    Asked for that didn't I!

So now not being blindly optimistic is an indication of fans not even attending - No one is slating your optimism but it is misplaced and to deride anyone who does not share it as not "proper", not attending, negative etc is why peopl react to your threads

I am a total Addick .. but now never get and in the past rarely got 'upset, depressed or emotional' when CAFC lost .. It's only a game .. BUT .. when I was ever on the losing side in games that I was playing .. THAT was quite a different game ((:>)

Reminds me (sorry another old story) of a tale Tommy (Liverpool hard man) Smith once told.
Walking off the pitch after one particular game he was warned by a copper for swearing & foul and abusive language. 'We won that game' said Smith; 'shoulda fecking heard me if we'd'a lost'
  • If getting relegated to League 1 would guarantee that Roland, Katrien and Fraeye all left and we got in a decent owner I would take that and I think a lot of fans would.

    I'd take that.
  • I'd rather we won games and stayed in the championship thanks. I work with some high powered nutters like RD and KF and in last job for some people worth more than RD. I reckon they need locKing in a room with people who have some sort of empathy for what is trying to be achieved. After a bruising encounter the joint vision can be explained by those with an affinity for it.

I can't hate them, I just wish they were doing a better job because ultimately their business success rests in our on field and clubs success.

Cant you get one of them to buy us ?

    KF is high powered?

But it wouldn't. That's the problem I have at the moment.

IF there were alternative owners waiting to take over the club, subsidise its losses and invest more money, then great! Sadly at the moment nobody has come forward as an alternative owner, and relegation would probably make that situation less likely.

I'm 27, I've had 7 season tickets in the past and see 5-10 games a season still.

But none of that matters... I NEVER want us to lose. That's ridiculous.
  • Always want us to do well.

I think this argument is completely flawed, anyway.

If we went down we'd immediately get less investment and more 'assets' (including players in this) would come into scope as a measure for balancing the books? RD's model would surely be that if we go down - we re-balance our outgoings to not hemorrhage money at that level, even if that's just in the short-term whilst he sells up. I mean, the club even has a "sales target" this season if I remember correctly from KM's presentation?

If that doesn't convince you, just think of poor Jacko! They'll have him up all-hours recording more videos at gunpoint to get fans to attend when attendances fall below 10k.
