The most disappointing aspect of the defeat today for me was that the team don't seem to have improved on the possession game that Bob introduced at the start of season. At the start of the season you could see immediately that he wanted the team to play a certain way, building from the back. It went well at the start and got results, even though we rode our luck at times (Wigan in particular comes to mind). It was a little ponderous but you felt that as time went by and the team got more used to it as they grew in confidence, the pace at which they would play that type of football would improve making us a better team as the season went on and more entertaining. Sadly the pace doesn't seem to have picked up at all, each player still seems to need to much time on the ball and too many touches, I can't think of a single successful first time pass today, and the movement doesn't seem to have improved.
The lack of pace of our game was most starkly contrasted at Bournemouth, who seemed much better drilled in that type of football and the whole team knew immediately what they were going to do with each, corner, throw in and free-kick whereas I cant think of a worse team at giving away possession at throw ins than ourselves.
I know the game plan has been disrupted by injuries and we haven't been able to put our full strength side for some time since the start of the season but you would think that there would have been some progress on that style of play. I'm not sure what the solution is other than perhaps playing Gudmundsson in the hole behind the front two.
