  • From a distance, on the Sparrows Lane thing, it all feels a bit iffy. It isn't my money (well a little bit of it is, in a way), but I would be very encouraged to see the development work start. On Saturday we had Solly, Wilson, Gomez, Fox, Harriott, and Cousins all involved in the squad which drew 1-1 away at Nottingham Forest which is a very tidy outcome.
If we're not going to become viable by filling the Valley every game, or getting promotion anytime soon, then we need to continue to bring through players, and the more you make the training facilities attractive, the better chance you have of attracting promising young players.

The point about giving tickets away is that you manage the process as far as possible to prevent people who would otherwise buy getting them on a regular basis. It's scattergun and can be criticised, but it has over many years introduced new people to The Valley.

Selling £2 adult tickets to anyone who wants them may also introduce new fans but it is likely to be very expensive indeed in lost revenue from regulars. Fair enough if you can afford it, but wholly at odds with making marginal savings by sacking the programme sales company, if indeed that's a saving at all. As with the £150 season ticket, £2 match tickets are not necessarily sensible just because they are popular.
  • Seeing their numbers at Derby recently (poor by their recent standards) I think they may struggle to sell out, esp at those prices and with their form.

They usually sell out from what I can remember.

It makes a change for them to have a relatively short journey for an away trip.

People not understanding why CAFC are doing this, as Brighton always sell out, have perhaps not read this re trains :-

On the day of the match there will no trains running to or from Charlton from London Bridge, London Charing Cross or London Cannon Street.

Trains from the above stations will still be running to Lewisham where a bus replacement service will be running.

Two trains per hour will run between Charlton and London Victoria.

Meanwhile, replacement buses will run between Haywards Heath and Brighton/Lewes and the Bedford to Brighton services will not run between Haywards Heath and Brighton. London Bridge to Brighton services will not run and replacement buses will run between Three Bridges/Haywards Heath and Brighton.

Thing is CE, we had them in Boxing Day a couple of years back (may even have been last season) when there were no trains what so ever and they still sold out and we got a decent home gate as well.

I'm not knocking it, I just think it's a strange business decision to choose to do it for this game.
  • Good point. However, they weren't bottom 3 then :-)
