Keep Harriott in the side. Last few games he's been t'riffic and he's a player that really benefits from starting week in week out
Totally agree, I thought he was the best player along with Colquelin, until Harriott was moved out wide. Just hope we can persuade Arsenal to let us have Colquelin until at least the end of the season, pure class.
Thought Harriott faded second half and so did the rest of the team, difficult to know which caused the other but in the last three games the vast majority of our good attacks have involved Callum in some way or another and a lot is going through him. Good to see, really hope he can keep it up when teams start to target him a bit more. I think him and Igor can still work as a pair, but we have to keep it on the deck as much as possible. We also need to get more runners coming out of midfield to support them and give them options for the pass, it's been weeks since any of the midfield 4 have even looked like scoring and they all need to be doing more. We need options up front but the blame for our lack of goals doesn't solely lie with the forwards.
Still think Popey at least could and maybe should have saved their goal, but he otherwise looked very good with some good claims on crosses. His nerves seem to be settling and confidence between him and the centre backs is growing. Hendo may well not stroll straight back into the side at this rate.
Still plenty to cling onto in this side, but still plenty to work on.
Can't be bothered on commenting on the actual game as it was a poor one and the sitting back when we're a goal up shtick (which has worked very few times in terms of winning games recently) is getting tedious to watch and making me question whether I actually want to go to games at the moment.
What I wanna ask is why we we so quiet today? I get maybe the fact they just let people sit where they want may have mucked things up, and there was nothing really to get behind after the goal, but for 800-900 we were so quiet.
Pity you couldn't have found something more positive to post, Westie but then again, you have only commented 21 times in the past 12 months so you've had little practice...
It sounds as though you were there today but "tedious to watch " ???? Where were you for the first 45 ? Perhaps it's best that you take a well earned break from the arduous job of supporting the Addicks...well, at least until we get promoted.
For me, the game bore a strong resemblance to last Saturday's - a very impressive, strong first half performance ( especially from our Young Guns) followed by the inevitable bombardment as soon as the 2nd half whistle was blown. Psycho had NOT been impressed thus far & cups/ hairdryers had probably seen some action during the break.
At first, I felt fairly confident that we would see out this frenetic period on the back foot but a cracking goal only fed the Forest fire and we appeared to lose our shape and our ability to pass to feet. The Le Coq booking for a foolhardy foul (IMO) seriously affected the player's influential role and we seemed to lose the ability to win balls in the air. Forest looked the more likely to score a winner but we held out and made a couple of forays forward which could have resulted in that "quiet" away end slightly raising their noise level...
All in all, a tad disappointing & I look forward to reading Big Bob's thoughts on the game. But there were some definite positives too as against Ipswich : Callum running at & beating defenders, Jordan's distribution & tireless play, young Nick's confident handling, our commanding central defenders and Igor's battle to contribute whilst protecting his less than 100% fitness. We are a difficult to beat team & I can't see any signs of a capitulation a la Millwall this season. But we are all singing from the same hymn sheet with a partner for our lone striker top of our Christmas wish lists.
3 points against the seasiders and a chorus of " Oh what fun it is to see Charlton win away" at Ewood Park will set us up nicely for 2015. And Roland, cheque book in hand, making his entrance through that newly opened window in January would be a belated but very welcome Christmas present.
As others have said, this really was the archetypical game of two halves.
Thought we were tremendous in the first period. One of the best performances of the season. Forest rarely threatened and we were measured and controlled in possession. We moved the ball well and with Coquelin, Cousins and Harriott all outstanding, we looked a very good side.
Would like to see it again, but felt Vetokele might have done better with what looked like a free header following a slick move down the right. Not sure if Wilson could have done more with the rebound. If we'd gone in two up Forest could have had no complaints.
The injury to Jackson on twenty minutes didn't appear to impact the last twenty five minutes of the first half, but on reflection may have been highly significant. When Jacko went off, Cousins, who'd been excellent on the left, moved inside, with Wilson taking his place on the left, in turn, enabling Gudmundsson to stay on the right. Unfortunately, Wilson was a fish out of water on that left flank. Interesting that Peeters chose not to use either Buyens or Bulot.
The second half was a completely different game. Forest increased their intensity and played at a much higher tempo. They were all over us. We seemed unable to retain possession and the slick passing we'd exhibited in the first half deserted us. The equaliser, an absolute screamer from substitute Tesche, was no real surprise. It had been coming.
Fortunately, Forest were unable to retain their tempo and dominance and we held on for a draw. We rarely threatened, but Harriott did have a half chance which Darlow did well to save with his legs.
It's hard to say to what extent we contributed to what happened in the second. Were Forest simply too good for us or did we let them back in it? Wilson and Gudmundsson swapped sides, perhaps understandably, but unfortunately this meant that the Icelander disappeared from the game, while Wilson was unable to provide any threat down the right. With no outlet, right, left or down the middle the ball just kept coming back. Coquelin and Cousins found much less space.
Nevertheless, a good point against one of the better sides in the Division. Both full backs deserve a lot of credit for managing to contain the hugely impressive Michail Antonio. He was everywhere and must have a tremendous engine. On the other hand, Tom Ince was completely nullified, save for one dancing run around the outside of Fox.
Interesting that Tucudean wasn't even on the bench today. I assume he was injured, but was surprised to see Pigott chosen ahead of Ahearne Grant. Vetokele is beginning to find out what a very tough league this is. I felt Harriott gave Mancienne and Lascelles more to think about today than did Igor.
Bit of a stream of consciousness that. Enjoyed the game. Dreaming of a play-off place at half-time, given the performance. Good result in the end, perhaps even a fair result overall, but Forest are stronger than us at this point and on this showing will finish higher in the table.
not really arsed anymore. We're not going to score more than once in a game so I knew from 20 mins into the game that would be it & no way would we hold onto a 1-0 lead at Forest.
Just surprised that Blackpool won today as its got a 0-1 away win written all over it next week
If you break down the season so far into four sets of five fixtures, our form since the start has been: 9pts, 9pts, 5pts, 6pts.
In short for the opening ten games we delivered play-off form and in the past ten games relegation form.
So the big questions are: was the early form a blip and we are set for a lower midtable finish (albeit with enough in the bag to avoid a scrap)? Or is the most recent form a blip and can we find a resurgence to challenge for the top six?
I fear the former based on the lack of squad depth.
I think Vetokele's injury didn't help us, and we struggled without him. I think the only win was Bolton. One poster said he looked like he is getting back to full fitness. Even at full fitness if he is up top alone it is going to be very hard.
I think you hit the nail on the head when you say lack of squad depth, but also quality up top. That is why I think BP places so much emphasis on our defence and protecting a lead once we go 1 up. I trust BP and his tactics as I think he's done a great job to get us where we are now.
I can't comment on today's game as I wasn't there, and it is interesting the way you've broken down our season into 4 groups of 5 games, and how we've dipped in pts over the last 10 games.
Yes this could be looked at as 'relegation form' if you compare to the first 10, but no way in the world have our performances been relegation form. I think we played some of our best football since Derby last Saturday, and our overall approach is a team that has a game plan, has some talented players, just not quite got the win in the last 3 games.
I'm definitely confident we've got enough to keep us around where we are with the current team, but yes, if we don't add a forward in Jan we will gradually slip away from the top 6.
Being totally honest, but not pessimistic, we are not a top 6 team. Personally, I want 50pts as quickly as possible, let's see what happens after that.
At the moment I think BP is doing extremely well with what he's got. 3 defeats in 20 games means clubs know they have a tough fixture against us.
I'm also a believer in getting any sort of result after a defeat, just to make sure we don't spiral into 2/3 defeats in a row
From my seat that was a good point. Played well first half. Forest really stepped it up second half and the crowd got right behind them. Other than 15mins where were wobbling I thought we stood up to them very well.
Anyone who thinks we are going to go to The City Ground and dominate for 90 mins is living in an alternative reality.
The Forest squad probably cosr 3-4 times what ours did and we more than matched them.
Think we missed Jackson and after Coq got a final warning we lost the midfield battle.
As for the twats sitting behind me, jesus wept. One of them was only going to be happy if Forest scored again. There were 5-6 of them who spent the whole match spouting absolute crap.
Apparently, we draw too many games because all of our players are used to the Belgian league and can't cope with English football. Of the starting XI I believe Ben Haim is the only one who has regularly played in Belgium.
By all accounts this is the worst team for 10 years and Peeters is an uninspiring chancer who is stealing a wage.

This isn't a personal dig Golfie, but i often think after reading your comments "why does he bother going?" You don't enjoy it so put yourself out of your misery and stop going.
Find yourself a nice woman and ...............actually scrap that bit.
Happy with a point but if only Wilson had made it 2.
Harriott was MOM for me, seems to be growing into his new role and is another threat. Can now see what Bob is thinking and where he is going with him up there.
Watched the game on the live Stream, decent quality. Fox played a lot better than against Ipswich. Pope to me MOM. If you watch their goal Ben Haim played it out to Tesche who then hit a screamer. Poor old Fox crucified for doing similar last week! Read Bob Peeters quote about the game in Sunday paper 'We don't have enough quality up front to score goals and win games'. Well for ffff's sake get some. It's down to you and Rolly. Most fans have seen this for ages! At least whenever Callum scores we don't lose. Please, please another Kermy type striker!
Winning the ball back or winning the loose ball in midfield was certainly seemed to be our main woe from where I was sitting yesterday. The fact Jackson went off early and Coquelin's booking did not help as well as the fact Gudmundsson doesn't seem able to make a tackle. This left Cousins working the whole midfield, and he did a superb job, one of his best games in fact. But he can't do it alone, even if Harriott and Igor play for the team and track back which they do so.

Slight difference mate, at least TBH got some distance on it before their bloke lashed it in from 30 yards, last week Fox never managed to clear the 18 yard box!
I don't think any of would have seen Harriet as a roaming 'in the hole' type player so full marks to BBP for transforming our in and out (mainly out) winger into an dangerous player. Plus he stuck with Fox who has been very steady. Onwards and upwards.

I like BB but credit where credit is due, didn't Jose play Harriott in that position towards the end of the season? One or two have criticised BB moving 'Messi' to the left wing yesterday but I felt he should have done that earlier as Wilson was like a fish up a tree playing LM when he came on for JJ. Either Callum or JBG should have been switched to LM with Wilson RM which eventually happened. Had a naturally left footed player been in the position to react to Igor's saved header we would probably be celebrating 3 points instead of one!
The difference between the two halves yesterday and on so many other occasions this season is simply down to tactics. First half we played everything from the back with great flowing passing moves through midfield and created chances, totally dominating the game. Second half, to his credit, Pearce got his players closing down our full backs and in the middle every time Pope had the ball and because he didn't have anyone to roll it to all he did was kick long, so 99% of the time we lost possession. Harriott great in the first half but couldn't do much in the second will high balls lobbed at him. We need another plan B instead of long punts up field when the opposition work out why we're dominating them.
Pope was punting downfield in the first half too. I think Tesche coming on for Lansbury at half time made a big difference for them and they started to battle more, in the air and on the ground.
We in turn had a spell where we couldn't string 3 passes together and got what we deserved as a result.

Will the real Charlton Athletic please step forward. All of the evidence suggests that you are correct.
Two articles posted on this forum around the time of the Fulham game used statistical analysis of our performances to suggest we had outperformed during the early part of the season and clearly implied that we'd fall away. How right they were. Here's the first by FoxPunter, dated 24th October. The second was put together by a Fulham fan previewing our game with them.
The statistically minded might also be interested in the Fink Tank. The Fink Tank model, which can be fun to play around with, gives us the second worst Attack Rating in the Division, behind only Blackpool. We're simply not having enough shots, as the two articles above noted. Defensively we're much stronger, of course, but overall the Fink Tank model rates us as the 20th best team in the Division, predicting a 14th place finish, reflecting our good start. This might be pessimistic. Indeed, I believe it is, though its what many of us had expected before the season began. What it tells us is that stripped down to the bare essentials, their analysis of our performances, which focuses simply on how likely we are to score and concede goals, suggests that we are a lower half of the league table side.
Bookmakers appear to share this view. We are rated at around 25/1 for promotion, suggesting a one in six or seven chance of a play-off place, and around 14/1 to get relegated. Our good start was critical, as you imply, and should give us enough in the bag to avoid a relegation scrap, while if we were to strengthen in the January window we might just, if we got lucky, sneak into one of the play-off places.
Having said all of this, I'm not pessimistic. As I noted above, I felt we looked a very good side in the first half yesterday. Bob Peeters appears to be developing his players, both individually and collectively, and that's very encouraging. However, we all agree that we need much more of a goal threat if we're going to push on and that's not simply about a strike partner for Vetokele. We clearly lack a central midfield player who can get forward and support. Some width and genuine pace wouldn't go amiss either.
I think Psycho was always gonna give his players a bit of a rocket at half time and they was always gonna come on strong and we needed to see it through. But they hit a worldy that we could do nothing about. It's one of those goals if Messi or Ronaldo scored we would have been waxing lyrical over it.

Slight difference form week before last when the ball came past 2 of our players - between the legs of one of them - completely blocking Fox's view of the ball until the last second, so actually he didn't do too bad getting anything at all on it, whereas TBH had time to compose himself So players at all levels make mistakes
Is it me or is this post match thread a sign of the general apathy and boredom towards Charlton ,at the moment , because to me it looks like a lack of comments and interest in our bores boys
Saw a stream (with commentary for a change) obviously everyone is right with the game of two halves comment. It was a point I would have settled for before the match, but I think we should have been two up at the break with our domination of play. Harriot played well and Igor worked very hard. I thought there were a couple of occasions where Coq didn't look up when there was a decent pass on and a couple of times the ball ended up with Pope when we started off in possession not far outside their area, that's disappointing.
It's all going to come right next week when me and the missus will be at The Valley to watch us smash five past the Seasiders...
We're not far off something very very good under Bob.
Perhaps, he doesn't let the boys lose very easily at all (bar Fulham, not his fault though, players didn't turn up).. but 4 wins in 18, he needs more to work with and he won't be getting it, so I'm more worried than apprehensive about his future, but we shouldn't be going down. But then not sure we'll be going up either, bit of cover over the holes we have and we'd give it a shot..

we're coming to draw we're coming to draaaaaawwwwwww boredraw athletic we're coming to draw
I wouldn't call it a must win game but after a draw and a defeat I think we really run the risk of losing whatever momentum remains from our early season form if we can't pick up three points on Saturday in a very winnable game.
For the record more than happy with where we're at and Bob is making us hard to beat , just as the master Curbs would always do
Score 2+ more and win comfortably 0.75% ...... Win by 1 and hang on for dear life for 70 or so minutes 28% ..... Draw 71% ..... Lose by more than 1 goal 0.25% ......
