Wilson - out on loan?

  • Damn - I've come into this too late for a Tom Hanks reference.

So I'll be serious. Strange decision to allow it given the available options in the squad, but perhaps it's the case that Lawrie wanted to go and Bob couldn't or didn't want to persuade him not to.
  • Bob doesn't fancy him right midfield so he's not gonna play there.

Wilson's problem at right back is that Solly is playing more regularly while Gomez is improving day by day and not forgetting, if we can get him tied up longer term, Coquelin can also cover there.

Blimey the whingers will be scrapping around soon. This would be ridiculous as is the Morrison loan. How have Birmingham done since Morro went there ?

Blimey the rose tinted spec merchants will justify anything. It's not as if we've got a small squad playing in a competitive league and Wilson can cover a number of positions, is it?

Personally, I don't like pigeonholing posters but that's just me.

If Wilson is going out on loan I'm happy to give BP the benefit of the doubt, particularly if Coq is staying around for a bit. Not been overly impressed with Wison so far this season.
  • It is odd. Without Wilson we have 12 fit outfield players with any experience, 14 if you include the 2 short term loans. Can anybody in the management team believe that is enough? Apart from the danger of suspensions and injuries it means there can be virtually no competition for places.
  • Henderson, Pope, Solly, Gomez, Bikey, Ben Haim, Onyewu, Wiggins, Fox, Coquelin, Gudmundsson, Bulot, Cousins, Jackson, Buyens, Moussa, Harriott, Tucudean, Vetokele, Pigott.

That's twenty players who have played for the first team and I probably forgot a couple.

Morrison, Wilson! Church, Karlan Ahearne - Grant.
  • A small squad is better than a big squad.
  • A small squad is better than a big squad.

...when winning and injury and suspension free. Otherwise...WE'RE DOOMED I TELL YA!!!!!! ;-)

That list has 20 players, 2 are goalkeepers, 1 is long term injured, 3 have no experience at all to speak of and 2 are short term loans-so 12 experienced outfield players plus 2 short term loans as I said. I could have added that 2 of them are useles as well-Moussa and Tuc. We basically have 11 decent first team players, any injuries and suspensions and it will be full of holes. So odd if Wilson goes as well

Fair play to Lawrie if he wants to play regularly , he's an honest and decent bloke , i wish him well, is he off to Huddersfield?
our squad is a tad thin though , are reinforcements around the horizon?
  • Praise the lord. Ive been saying for ages that he's not good enough, bob agrees.

yes he may be a lovely bloke but that just isn't enough
  • Longshot, but hope we get someone from Liege.

Whatever the future holds for Lawrie Wilson, he did well for us, always giving his all whenever I've seen him play.
Wherever he goes, whatever he does I wish him good luck and best wishes ... BUT .. NOT against us

Loaning Lawrie, will ultimately free up the wage bill, slightly, which could give the club more flexibility negotiating with a potential player, without exceeding the clubs budgeted wage bill.

I don't think it's a case of BP not rating Lawrie. Think it's more on the lines of sacrificing a squad player, to enhance the chances of getting a player which will strengthen another position.

Also remembering, Gomez can play RB, along with Coq, who I imagine, will have his loan extended.

  • Just checked Cafc website and Wilson has made 15 appearances in the 19 games we've played so far...sounds like a pretty important member of the squad to me. Would be very odd to let him go.
  • Three things:
As above think about the squad in the summer 2015 - Church and Wilson are out of contract so they need game time somewhere.
Secondly, am I right in thinking that we have way less midweek games from now on in so less cover needed for Solly
And finally, we have no idea who the club are looking to bring in now or in the January window.

To really compete in the top third of the championship, we need another step change - everyone has identified we need a number 9 but what other players might aid a radical improvement?
  • This one would surprise and annoy me. I've got a lot of time for Lawrie - always does a job and reliable. Decent player too.

Would hope we have something very appealing lined up,

    Bahebeck?
  • I like Wilson a lot but to be honest I've not been all that impressed by him this season when he's had a chance. If he moves out it assumes that we've got an upgrade coming in. All the best to him if he goes.

I think Bob's choice is Wilson or Bulot and I can't agree with his choice. One close to POTY last season, the other barely more than average so far. LW can play LB, all across middle and point of diamond.

  • I can agree with Bulot over Wilson. I love Wilson and he was my choice for POTY last season but he's not got a claim to any starting position in our line up this season, especially not in midfield where he just doesn't offer anything special to worry opposition defenders. Solly, Gomez and Coquelin are more than capable of handling RB between them so where does he fit in?

    Has he ever played there?
  • Or LW or LB?
  • I trust in BB. I love Lawrie but if he's out of contract next season and if BB doesn't fancy him long term then maybe we need to put him in the window to sell in January. Also it's true that there are less midweek games after Xmas and so we can manage Solly better and have Gomez as cover. Plus if it's frees up wages for a forward then so be it.
  • He's definitely committed to the club and I think gives 100% every time he wears the shirt. I get the feeling he is/was happy to fight for his place up until a point.

Personally I'm indifferent to him staying/going. At times he shows some decent moments, but other games he just reminds me of some of the weight of the team from last season.

Dare I say it but I think Bob only really rates Solly & maybe Wiggins from the older players he inherited. I think this might be JJ's last season as captain and we are already seeing BP happy to sub him, something CP never did.

For me BP hasn't put a foot wrong yet, so if he thinks this is a good move, then I'm willing to back it
  • the trouble with Wilson is he's a versatile player that can cover a few positions but is not exactly brilliant at any of them and would never start in front of any of our current best starting 11.player . If the reason he is being loaned out is because someone better is coming in the hurry up and do the deal, I won't be sad to see him go.

    The same team as me.
