Leeds United v Charlton Athletic
Tuesday 04 November 2014
7:45 pm Kick-Off

INTRODUCTION
One of the biggest rewards for a Manager has been exaggerated a bit by two clubs this season… In regards to two clubs this season the Manager of the Month from an award to a statement, of course two the clubs to which I refer are Watford and tomorrow’s appointments Leeds United.

Handed out at the beginning of the month the award is given to the best Manager in the Division and as we enter our fourth month of the season; Leeds United find themselves turning to their fourth permanent Manager of the season as ex-Charlton Midfielder: Neil Redfearn is finally given the reigns to a Football Club, ironically Neil has been Caretaker Manager at Leeds on four occasions before being given the role permanently.

THE OPPOSITION
Leeds United have had a bit of a rocky period since being taken over by eccentric Italian Businessman: Massimo Cellino in April 2014… Originally Chairman of Italian club: Cagliari, he became famous for sacking 36 Managers over a 22-year reign at the club… Now at Leeds, Cellino has continued with tradition and (after the sacking of McDermott, Hockaday and Milanic) has now turned to his fourth manager at Leeds in Neil Redfearn.

Turning from the Boardroom to the Football pitch though and Leeds have struggled (which is understandable when you think of the amount of change in Yorkshire), currently in 19th place with sixteen points, Leeds have just four wins and four draws (told you four would be a magic number) to their names this season,

Be warned though, despite losing on seven occasions only two of those matches have been at home (against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion) so a guaranteed win against a side in more of a mess than any other club currently in England isn't going to be a straight up given.

ONE TO WATCH
image

Going for someone a bit different this week as my member of the Leeds Squad to watch is none other than Leeds United Manager: Neil Redfearn…

In a playing career which ran from 1982 (with Bolton Wanderers) until 2008 (with Salford City), Redfearn would go on to appear in 790 Football League Matches (the fifth highest all-time) whilst also making over a 1000 appearance in his entire playing career, of course for those Addicks who remember him, 30 of those matches were spent at the Valley as Redfearn (joining in our first Premier League year in 1998) would become the first £1m in Charlton colours, despite his best efforts, Charlton wouldn’t survive that season in the top flight and Redfearn would return to Yorkshire and Bradford City.

Since his time in charge at Leeds though, Redfearn has taken charge four times (as previously mentioned) with not the worst of track records winning five (and losing four) of his fixtures in charge.

So why was he one to watch… Well with Cellino in charge, anything can happen, keep an eye on the dugout as to see a Manager being sacked whilst a match is in progress… Well you wouldn’t put it past him would you…

LINE-UP
With Johann Gudmundsson and Igor Vetokele appearing off the bench against Sheffield Wednesday it remains to be seen whether they’re fit enough to start a match.

Henderson
Wilson – Ben-Haim – Bikey – Wiggins
Gudmundsson – Buyens – Jackson – Cousins
Tucudean – Vetokele

PREDICTION
Leeds United 0-4 Charlton Athletic (Well seeing it appears to be a favourite number in this preview…)

    .
  • a very similar game to the Norwich one.....ending in the same result
  • Dirty Leeds 4 - 0 Charlton
  • Another thriller 1-0 to leeds scum
  • Henderson
Wilson - Ben Haim - Bikey - Wiggins
    Coquelin
    Buyens - Cousins
    Jackson
    Ahearne-Grant - Tucudean

Vetokele to come off the bench again and get the winner in a 2-1 victory
  • Carl Harris. Never forget, never forgive.

Charlton repeat last season's 1 - 0 victory with an early goal from George.
  • A surprisingly comfortable 2-0 win and play offs are put back on the CL agenda.
  • I don't think Igor will be fit to start.

1 nil Charlton, Coquin with a 20 ard screamer.
  • I agree, I don't think Igor will start and would not be surprised if YBG is on the bench as well. I expect Coquelin to be in the starting 18, as we only have him for 4 games at the moment.

  • Charlton under the cosh from the outset, but still winning 2-0
  • depends which Leeds turns up .. the side I saw earlier this season under Milanic was not what could be called a typical Leeds side .. they were intent on passing the ball on the floor and retaining possession .. they kept the kicking and snarling to a minimum .. Redfearn might have different ideas, especially given his success as caretaker .. Austin is their main man in midfield but gets worn out after an hour .. Antenucci is a very good striker and has a decent partnership with Doukara .. Number 5, Bellusci gets easily wound up and is a potential weak link, he has been referred to by Redfearn as 'our Roy Keane' .. Mowatt is a midfield dynamo .. So far this season, the whole of the Leeds team is well below the sum of its individual parts.

I have a bad feeling about this one .. I think the 'good Leeds' will turn up tomorrow.

    Leeds United 2 v CAFC 0
  • 0-2 to BP's whatever colour they play in Army.
  • 3-0 Leeds, another away game, against another team in white, with another first half performance meaning we are 2 down at half time.

Just have a bad feeling about this one. But I do love being proved wrong.

    Boooooo!
  • This content has been removed.
  • I put this down as our most likely game to lose this month but now im feeling more confident, think we can snatch all 3 points once again from Leeds.

One nil win, Igor coming on in the second half to score an important goal again.
  • If Bikey plays with the same discipline he has played with all season I think we can shut them out. If on the other hand he starts charging upfield like he did on Saturday we are in trouble.
  • Comfortable away win 4-0.

Does not need to, we have Coquelin now to charge up field with the ball, (here's hoping)

  • Been to Elland road for the last two games up there and am going again for tomorrow night's game.

Amazingly, apart from the 3-0 Doncaster result last season and Operation Ewood, I've never seen us lose away from home and I've been to many games. I guess I'm just good at picking them.

Had some decent results up in Leeds. 1-1 (Dervite) and 1-0 (useless Iranian)

Feel my luck has probably run out and we'll lose 2-0. Would love it if Johann and Igor start though.

Ultimately I just want us to score a meaningful goal so I can jump around a bit.

  • 1-1 we only win lose draw 1-1
we only win lose draw 1-1

Will we grab an early lead and then sit back and play safe until they grab an equaliser or will Leeds grab an early lead and then sit back and play safe until we grab a late equaliser

It's all so unpredictable and exciting.
  • Some memorable moments from previous games at Elland Road:

  • Igor and especially JBG can't be limited to the subs bench for much longer.

Neither of them were seriously injured, and if they were fit enough for c30mins last weekend, they have to be starting soon.
  • Cant see past a 5-0 defeat.
  • Henderson
    Coq bike tbh wig
    Jbg Buyens jj cous
    Tuc igor

    1-1
  • Henderson
    wilson. Bikey. Ocheywu. Wiggins
    JBG. Buyens. Coquelin cousins
    igor and tucadean
  • And for a prediction I am going 2 0 charlton. Tucadean and Wilson
  • Hendo
    Wilson bikey TBH wiggins
    coq buyens cousins
    JBG
    Vetokele Tucudean
  • Comfortable away win 4-0.

I always find myself looking for your prediction, every game.
