Church scored 7 goals for Charlton in total last season, 2 LC goals v Oxford plus 2 FA Cup goals.

He scored the winner at Huddersfield in Round 4, with a very tidy finish across the keeper.
And also the winner at Wednesday in Round 5, with a header.

A striker should probably get at least 2 goals in one game, at least 2 or 3 times a season!

Hey, he's Simon Church, not Roy of the Rovers!

    ;o)
You say he scored a header against Wednesday in the cup but if you watched it clearly, he couldn't get quite work out how to get his head on the ball and instead decided to finish it with his hand or shoulder.
Do me favour. He put the ball in the net. Job done.
And a vital contribution to ensure Charlton won the match, and through to the FA Cup Quarterfinals.

  • I've heard he was much better at Reading, so I'm gonna make him an offer for his boots in exchange for a kindle................
  • I'd rather have a team of churches giving 100% than some of the lazy b'stards we've had nicking pound notes the last few years

This scenario is my worst nightmare
  • I reckon he might hit double figures this season.

is that mph on his shot speed?
I was trying to lighten the mood.

    Don't bother lol
  • Put the bloke out his misery and sell him somewhere to get a fresh start while hes still young (ish).

Hes not good enough and his confidence is going to suffer as a consequence of the reality.

I wish him all the best at a lower league club...but our club wants to move forward and churchy is already dead wood here. He might find his shooting boots at a, say, swindon, but its just not gana be at charlton or at championship level.

He could move club at prove himself somehwere, I hope he does.
  • Jesus Christ this guy Is painful to watch, I honestly can't see how you can defend him in "ABILITY" Wise he's basically crap.

In this thread someone says he has "pace" - not sure about that. Energy yes, but not pace. He doesn't actually have anything it seems.

Incredible to think that he plays in the same team as Gareth Bale at international level.
  • I won't ever get on the players backs at a match. Why do the oppo's work for them? However, this is a forum, so we can speak freely (sometimes !!) Church has a very weak finish for a striker, and that alone condemns him. He could run usefull interference for another striker, and does cause defenders problems, but sadly, not goalkeepers (and yes,I thought thatgoal versus the Wendies went in off his shoulder). He may yet stake a claim as a squad player, but if we have to rely on his goals,we'll have problems.
  • Bloody hell he is dire, like absolutley dire. A+ for effort but that's it, would be a better long distance runner (of sorts) than striker

  • People seem to get on his back quickly , was getting a bit of stick from a few fans around me , his confidence must be in shreds , i think he needs to be loaned out , i'm not convinced about him playing a full season for us , unless we have a death wish to end back up in League one.
  • His confidence is shot and felt for him today. In warm up he joined group for shooting practice with BP and had one shot that trickled five feet past the post, groans from the crowd he drops his head runs off and doesn't return.

He's probably a nice guy, and he does try he's very best, but he's just simply not what we need, if we are to progress from last season, I think he needs to be loaned/sold to a league 1 team and then he can build his confidence up and sign for a top league 1 team like Sheffield United.
  • 3 goals in 38 league games last season, from a striker. Just needs putting out of his misery - this isn't the club for him

All you lot got to do on a Saturday night ? Sit here and slag a player off instead off backing him?

    Very childish

Granted he's not the best but while he continues to put all that effort in, I'll back him to bounce back
  • All you lot got to do on a Saturday night ? Sit here and slag a player off instead off backing him?

Very childish and tbh very charlton

What, talk about a match that finished a few hours ago?

Facts speak for themselves, he's dreadful. What is there to back exactly?

Bounce back to what though!? he's been rubbish since he came here, if anything he's been consistent in that..
  • You can't defend him "ability" wise, he's out of he's depth
  • Church hitting form involves him progressing from awful, to merely bad.
  • frankly it's plain sad for him/us - to be exposed so clearly in public.

I'm pretty sure at the start of the season when he got a couple of goals everyone was saying he should start over sordell ?

    Not for me.

Don't get me wrong, I don't sit in the stands and boo the geezer, I respect him as a player and a person.Seems a decent chap.

But he is awful, bloody awful and if we can, it is wise for both parties IMO to get rid. He brings nothing to the table and i'm not sure this new look Charlton squad is the place for him to be.

    Agree %100
  • For me to be a striker you have to have confidence, be ruthless and be a bit arrogant/selfish. Church's biggest problem is mentally he isn't that type of character seems nervous at times. If we do switch to a more fluid system and play with 1 main forward I can't see him leading the line.
  • He is this season's Paul Benson : nice guy, hard working, limited ability and doesn't look like scoring or in any other particular way helping us to step up. He is also someone else other than the present regime's signing made in circumstances that are now changed due to new ownership and different coaching . I cannot see him being with us beyond next month. Good luck to him however wherever he ends up.
  • When Church plays we hardly score. Look at the stats.
  • Hasn't scored In league since Doncaster game in November.
