Other than take some long throws, what exactly did he do. Oh, other than run a couple of balls out of play for no apparent reason.

Frustrating thing is that you know he has a bit of quality in there somewhere. He just looks unfit to me, and a little bit lacking in nous.

Beat his man a couple of times whipped in a few dangerous crosses and some very dangerous crosses. What have the Romans ever done for us Jeez!
His crosses were about as dangerous as a wet hanky. Seriously he ran around more than he used to but achieved just as much, which is to say, not much.

First thing he did when he came on was beat the opposing player

Beat him to where? We're they giving out free hotdogs?

Seriously though, I'll take your word for it. I must've been in a coma by then.

Redhenry, tell me you're not serious?

In fairness, he did wake things up a bit yesterday when he came on. But generally, he can't beat a defender, his free kicks are absolutely pony, he drives me mad with the way he always tries to score direct from corners -or he hits the first man whilst trying to do so, he can't tackle except by diving in with his studs showing, thus either risking getting sent off or giving a free kick away, he gives no defensive support to his full back (look at what Wagstaff does), he goes missing in games.

Apart from all that, sure he should start regularly.

Agree he has tried to score from corners in the past and he should work a bit on his tracking back but he is still young and I think he will improve. His main asset is an attacking threat, do you prefer Pritch playing on the right?
That's a good question. And after the last 2 games I'm not sure of the answer!

For the next 2 away games, surely it has to be a 4-5-1 formation. In which case (assuming Solly is fit), I'd go with either Wilson or Wagstaff on the right of midfield. Both will provide Solly with defensive cover, something that I just don't see Danny Green ever doing.

Honestly, I can see where you're coming from. For example, he came on late in the Derby game and put over that perfect cross for Kermorgant to head in. But then a couple of minutes later, he miskicked the ball in our penalty area direct to the Derby player who fired home. That just summed him up for me - completely inconsistent and unreliable. Not something we need at this stage of the season when surely it has got to be 100% commitment and reliability from every player.
  • Powell might bring him on again if we are losing on Tuesday but I'm pretty convinced he doesn't trust him to start and nor should he as he has constantly proved his lack of pace, fitness, team play, positional awareness and tackling ability aren't quite good enough to match this supposed amazing crossing ability which I've yet to see in 2 years

I just hope we get a win in the next week so we don't have to have pointless debates about league 2 standard players that Powell would have bombed out on loan a long time ago if there were any mugs out there that would have him

Think that will do me on this debate mr selfridge is on...

Sorry Redhenry, but I don't remember seeing him beat anyone. Honestly. I also remember him slinging in some crosses, but nothing particularly great. wilson put in the best cross of the second half.

Not trying to dig him out in particular - not my style to bash players - but I find him so frustrating to watch. He just looks unfit.

Him and Waggy remind me of when we first had Robson and Robinson. One had industry and hard work and an eye for goal, and the other has occasional quality delivery but seems to be lacking in other areas and a bit too lightweight. Combine them and there's a great player there!

Agree with the comparison with John Robinson and Mark Robson.

Danny Green is a frustrating player who clearly has alot of natural talent but is not consistent enough.
  • really don't think we should mention Romans and crosses in the same sentence. Might offend some people :-)

Prefer Stephens on a bad day

Having seen Stephens on a (particularly) bad day vs Forest, I think I'd rather have Green. And I'm not even a fan of Green!

  • I'd always have a player like Green over a workhorse, but then given my username thats a gimme!

    Ha ha!
I'm just fed up with us being so defensive at home.

  • Any width is better than no width. Green/Wagstaff/Harriott need to start playing more. We're good down the sides with Wiggins and Wilson/Solly overlapping, so why doesn't Powell use it more instead of playing 4cms?

  • Just a note on Stephens...yes I know he can be poor sometimes but he really is the only player in our midfield with an eye for a pass.
  • At the start of the season many on here were saying that Green is not up to this level. In the first 5/6 games before getting injured, he was our best player and proved his doubters wrong. He's never got a run of games in since returning from injury and once again the doubters are back in force.
He's one of the few flair players that we have, a player who can cross the ball, shoot and take a decent free kick. With him and Waggy in the team we would see some attacking football and some chances created. Yes he's inconsistent as are all wingers, but that will improve with experience and game time.
  • Wilsons house is so much nicer though................
  • I like Danny Green because he offers something no other player in the squad does and that is quality delivery into the box and the ability to beat a defender. His cover work is abysmal and can be a liability but that isn't why you have a player like him in the team it's for the attacking qualities he brings. I think that there has been too much tinkering with the team but seeing as things surely can't get any worse I would start, providing Solly is fit, with either/or Hughes/Wilson, Stephens, Green and either/or Harriot/Waggy in midfield. I know Stephens had a stinker against Forest but generally he still has some quality. Prtichard is a great lad with loads of energy but looks lightweight and certainly can't finish but can bring energy in the last 20 minutes.

So for me I would play Danny not expect too much defensively but utilise his strengths.
  • Just a note on Stephens...yes I know he can be poor sometimes but he really is the only player in our midfield with an eye for a pass.

He may have an eye for a pass, but how often does he execute it?

The Forest game depressingly springs to mind.
  • Thought Green's delivery was poor on Saturday, he crossed the ball numerous times and usually found the first man or the keeper, the only really decent cross was from Wilson, when Obika freed him and he set up Haynes.

Green needs space, when he is confronted by two players he just flings the ball in from deep rather than pushing towards the goal line. The problem is that on his day he can be a match winner, yet the team needs players like Pritch or we will be even easier to beat.
  • Just a note on Stephens...yes I know he can be poor sometimes but he really is the only player in our midfield with an eye for a pass.

The problem is that his eye seems to be colour blind as he passes to the wrong bloody team!

  • If Pritchard could pass/cross/shoot like Green (ocassionally) can, he would be the best player in the squad by a very very long way indeed, probably for that matter so would Green if he had the effort and consistency of Pritchard. As it stands there are two players with strengths but also limitations, we all have different opinions as to just how limiting they are. In my opinion, Green just doesn't create enough good chances to justify his defensive liabilities. Pritchard on the other hand may not create a lot of gilt edged chances but his effort and determination gives Stephens, JJ and co. the chance to do so (in theory of course.)
  • I think Green's performance on Saturday was definitely helped by the number of throws/corners we got after he came on.

I do like him but he does struggle with consistency across games. Reminds me in that sense of Darren Ambrose - another talented player we couldn't get the best out of.
  • Really not sure that Green's 'long' throws are worth the wait when they are on the left. He's no Rory Delap!

  • If he played every game like he did on Saturday, then he'd be in the team. But he doesn't.
However, his performance means he deserves to keep his place on Tuesday.
  • If he played well on Saturday (I didn't go so don't know) then he should keep his place and we can just take him off if he's crap (which is more than likely)
  • In my opinion he can be a decent impact player sometimes as on Saturday but is not a 90 minute player.

We have a few of those!
  • He's worth a place tomorrow to give us a bit of attacking flair, especiallY as I'd have Hughes in midfield to stiffen up that area and also as a 'buffer' in front of the back 4 instead of Dervite. Green and one striker is our best option right now
  • I don't really think he has been given much of a chance this season mainly as CP likes to keep it narrow in midfield an play without wingers. Whilst making us harder to beat it however reduces our attacking options.

Danny Green and Dale Stephens are two of only a few players that can do something creative with a football and the decision to loan Green out (unless just to reduce the bill) was baffling to me when he has some form of talent.
I do understand though that both players are terribly inconsistent and shouldn't necessarily be in the starting line-up every week but should at least be on the bench to give us the option.

Slightly off subject, I agree with Nicholas.... "He will probably play well in the next couple of games then get dropped for no reason just like Wagstaff did".....

What did Waggy (not my favourite player) do to deserve getting dropped? Not be the one of the worst players against Forest? CP may as well have a rota for the four RMs.
  • All green lacks Is confidence but not surprised as Powell tried to loan him out, needs to start a few games then can be judged ?
  • Things improved once he joined the game on Saturday - cant see any better option.
Some of our fans sadly wont give him a chance.
  • This is really starting to wind me up. People saying he's not getting a run in the team, fans won't give him a chance etc. He was a regular last season and was a massive let down. The fans had very high hopes and so were very patient but he didn't deliver. He has had more than enough chances and if he can't cut it in league one then why would he be any better in the championship? If he gets one more chance he should take it and repay the manager and the fans faith in him but every time he's played this season he's been shite.
