  • Ignore that just seen it above.
If you do make introduce yourself. Always nice to meet another lifer for the first time.

No need, Henry - you'll recognise Plaaayer ....he'll be the one wearing his Uggs.

    ;o)
  • Ahh, the penny's dropped. That's why it's so quiet on here tonight.
  • Was good to meet Plaayer for the first time.
  • Apologies I couldn't make it.
  • For the benefit of those of us unable to come to the meeting. Was there anything said that bears upon the future direction of the club?

    Brilliant!

Nearly spluttered my coffee all over my keyboard lol

  • Really enjoyable night. Richard Murray is just such a good chap. Sadly he said so much I tried to remember it all & ended up forgetting most of it!

Some great stories about his years at the club and you can really feel the pain he went through when he talks about the recent financial difficulties and likewise feel & see the difference in him now this has been resolved. Spoke so highly of Peter Varney as you would expect.
  • Glad it went well chaps..

How is he now? Health wise?
  • He looked very well, probably the best he has in a long time.
  • Glad Nathan is getting better.

  • I really should come to these meetings
  • Come on then, someone give us the lowdown on what was said please. Did anyone follow up on the rumour about us getting first call on City's fringe players for instance?
  • Looks like everyone's sworn to secrecy, then!

If you want to know what was said then i suggest you go to the meetings as i've heard Mr.Murray likes what is said to stay in the room.

That's why i haven't asked and why i need to start going to these kind of meetings.
  • It is a shame that those unable to make it can not be told about our bidding for Lionel Messi this summer though.
  • It's a long way to come from Aussie land but we are members of this forum to hopefully be kept up to date all things Charlton.

You're right, of course. Unfortunately I couldn't manage to fit in a 500 mile return trip with no prospect of getting home that night. My own fault, I know.

Meanwhile, as you were there, any chance of telling some of Mr Murray's less confidential tales?

    ;o)
  • I weren't there, thats what i'm saying.
  • Twas a good meeting. Good to see all the other lifers there. About 80 to 90 there I'd guess. Pouso et al just come along.

I do get fed up with all the "why is it a secret" stuff. I've been in Reading (at the football stadium as it happens) all day. before I've had a chance to write up what was said people are having a moan about it.

Flogged the remanding Champions t-shirts and mugs in no time and raffled off Dyer and Hayes' signed shirts.

We also presented Richard with a mug with the picture of himself as Kins lifted the play-off cup and "best wishes from Bromley Addicks". RAM really appreciated it. He had early been asked how much he'd personally put into Charlton and he replied he wasnt sure but about £15 to £20m so when he thanked us all for the mug some wag shouted out "not bad for £20m" which drew a laugh from RAM and the rest of us. He didn't have to but he did add that it did attract tax relief. Regardless he is still down by a 8 figure sum. He was very philosophical about it saying that his view on money is that as long as you have sorted your kids out and have enough to get by and pay for your care in an old people's home then your are fine. He said he has plenty and just like most in the room puts a lot of his spare cash into following Charlton. He's happy with his currentl level of involvement (10% ownership and putting 10% of funding in PA) More relaxed and please that he doesn't HAVE to go to Hartlepool (as not Chairman).

as said above RAM looked well. He said he has some pins and needles but otherwise OK. He's been to all the home games since his stroke and is enjoying his football more as less is riding on the results in terms of finance or the immediate future of the club.

RAM said the new owners are "nice people to work with" TJ the main football man and very well connected in the game.

He has met a couple of the "invisible men" ie the other owners but of of course he didn't name them. Didn't think the new owners were going to "throw money" at the team this years but with the increased income in this division we should at least break even. The decision will be how much extra to put in. Big or small loss? Long term the plan is to be in the Prem. The business is sound without debts and with ownership of the ground unlike many other clubs such as Pompey, Coventry. Other champ clubs have been running losses for the long time and their owners will say enough is enough sooner rather than later. We are in a good place to take advantage.

No names of players to be signed.

Lot of the old but still good stories from the prem years and before but can't remember them all now. Covered End and AFKA asked all the questions as usual so let them tell you : - )
  • Thanks for the update, Ben.

  • He also said Powell is a "fantastic bloke" and he will attract players because of who he is. RAM felt that he was unlikely to leave quickly.
  • Said Marcron broke the contract with us and we opted to get out and go with Nike. Spoke to a few brands Adidas didn't want us and we aren't big enough to get a first level deal like Man U so we have a 2nd tier deal.

When asked by me "Will we have heard of the new sponsor?" He said "I hadn't but you will have". Not sure if he was suggesting that I personally would know or just we as fans would but I think that rules out a household name.
  • Cheers Henry. I wasn't moaning btw...I never moan.
  • thanks Henners..........some on here appreciate that some of what RAM says has to "stay in the room" but little bits & pieces like those you have just told is always nice to know.
  • I thought his most telling comment was that the shirt sponsor deal, would probably not be for too long, as we didn't want to tie ourselves up, if we can get a better deal in The Prem.

Shows the board must be optimistic of making The Prem within a year or two.
  • That's for the update Henry

That's intriguing, suggesting it must be a company with a (relatively) youthful customer base perhaps? Or if he was being specific, one of Henry's relatives.

    Or a manufacturer of cardigans???
  • Who was the person who asked how much money he had put in... same bloke that kept asking DW how much he had lost at at City Addicks?

  • Mentioned that one of the suits that went out to Vegas came back and said what a great togetherness the squad has (including Hamer). Said that wherever they went they went all together and are a great close knit bunch.
  • Thanks henry
