Yes, If we have an absolute keeping crisis and only one keeper, may for the odd game save us having to go out and get somebody just to sit on the bench.
If he goes in goal there'll be nobody to play centre half!

You mean he can't play in both positions at the same time ???

What a waste of money !

I am not convinced he is the right man. We need at least one central defender who is well over 6 foot tall. So unless Llera is paired with Taylor we still need a big un to play at the back. Will Taylor be any improvement on Doherty? .. i wonder

Having had a moan about Taylor, I am very happy with the other signings, but again, with the little caveat, they are all quite small.

oh well, there had to be at least one signing that underwhelms everyone. Same as all the players such as green/Hayes/Wiggins etc that everyone is quick to praise...................None of them have played yet, so let's give them all the same chance and get behind them all. you never know, taylor might even turn out to be our savior this season. Who knows?

not so: Piquet is 6 foot 3 and a 1/2 and Abidal is 6 foot 1, that is 2 defenders well over 6 foot .. in midfield, Busquets is 6 foot 2. The bigger guys allow the smaller ones to flourish

You wanted defenders "well over 6 foot" and you list Abidal here, at 6'1", as well over six foot. Yet, Matt Taylor doesn't fit your "well over 6 foot" criteria when he is exactly the same height as Abidal?

Llera is gone & surely not returning.

Chris perry was a very good defender but was short. It's about quality, power, determination, jump, heading ability, tackling, etc. not just height.

I'm sure we will do it soon but I'm suprised there hasn't been more concrete confirmation on some of the departures such as Anyinsah who we know is not returning.

True. Perry is only 5'9.Height may help to an extent but agility can make up for any lacking in the height dept. And with a lower centre of gravity, this also makes them quicker on the turn etc.

Taylor is 6 foot and read again .. Piquet 6 foot 3 plus .. OK?

It was said somewhere that Taylor was 6ft1 which is what I was going on. I'm not sure what the other part of what you said means even after reading again? You still said that Abidal, at 6ft1, was also well over 6ft..

Anyway, petty argument. I'm pleased with this signing. Still feel as though we need to bring two or three more in in this position but things are looking good!

my point is that  i m h o, any div 1 team needs a few big guys to succeed. So many high balls, aimless punts to deal with etc, as well as the sheer physicality of the midfield battle. Bottom line is, we agree and are both looking forward to what should be a successful and exciting season.

Sometimes you need steel in your side, Taylor will give you that. He will make no fuss and get on with his job.

Watched him against Notts County last year and he had Lee Hughes in is pocket. He does have a bad game but not that many.  At Rochadale though the strikers caused him problems by backing into him(in the first half) I think it was Dickinson but not sure. We still won and the pies were good!

Anyway now he is at Charlton I can still watch him (well of course when I not watch exeter). Hope he is does well.

I still recall watching Jimmy Giles in his first spell at Exeter and hope Taylor can at match him.

I do, gutted when he went to Brighton but we did get John Templeman and Lammie Robertson. Now Lammie was something else I never saw anybody with so much time on the ball, great days

I say it takes all sorts to make a team, and that is something we haven't had for a couple of seasons.........a TEAM.

Matt Taylor may not be the fastest palyer on earth, but then neither were Youds, Brown or Shirtliff !  I would expect CP to bring in a faster defender along the lines of a Rufus and then pair them up.............

I'm feeling a lot better than I did a few weeks ago................just have to get them to get as a team.

    Golfie is feeling optimistic...

    Someone fetch a doctor!

The gelling as a team bit is important and another thing that pleases me is that CP has the entire pre-season with the squad (all bar one or two arrivals). Over the last few seasons the revolving door at the training ground saw too many players arrive and depart in this period with players arriving after the season kicked off. The new owners have certainly given CP just about everything he could have asked for.

I have to agree with you there BFR...............probably just as important as getting the right men in is getting them in early. All will have a pre-season to get fit, get to know one another & for CP to start work on tactics etc.

they have 5 weeks before the first game of the season - hopefully come Aug 6th they will be super fit & gelled.

The point is that as long as they are at least playing decent & staying in the play off positions, you can really become a force after xmas.

Soton & Hudds really came strong after xmas this season. Not enough though to catch Brighton who were a force from the off.
