For the last couple of years I have not really understood what he brings to the table and I just wondered if anyone else had any opinions of him either way.
I overheard a comment from 3 board members in the summer which led me to believe he may not be hugely popular at their level and I must confess I too don't think he adds much.
All he seems to do on a matchday is ping a few shots at the goalies and then he is the mastermind with the pen and paper for the subs. You can't really say our goalkeeping standards have been exactly stellar for the last few years (Weaver, Elliot) so he isn't performing wonders on the training pitch
Maybe i've got it in for him - but he just reminds me too much of the honey monster to take him seriously. I just get the impression he is riding a gravy train on a very nice contract and will be out of work as soon as that ends
So can anyone please enlighten me?

Mike Kelly under Dowie and, going back a bit, Mick Cole (?s) who Deano always spoke highly of I remember reading.
As a (former) keeper yourself you are probably best qualified to answer your own question!
I've seen him shouting things at the keepers from the touchline during games too - it wouldn't really be his place to start telling Benson what to do would it, so not really fair to jusdge him on what he seems to do on matchdays, most of his work will all be behind the scenes.
Rob has improved but is not as fit as he should be
Weaver was ridiculously unfit
Randy didn't train hard enough (that's a coaching issue)
Worner I'm not including as he's new to it and looks to be a very useful player thus far.
I also think goalkeeping has been/is the least of our problems. I'm more likely to question what our striking coaches (if any) do.
We do seem to have an obsession with "what do our staff do.." when we really have no idea of what goes on. can't we just concentrate on slagging off Parkie.
The Goalkeepers train together so not sure how you can claim Randlph didn't train enough. Lets face it, it's kind of hard to slack off when there's only two of you working to one person - I think he absence would be noticed!
I heard that the club were very unhappy with the youth team goalkeeping manager and that when Randolph and Elliott move to the senior squad they were both unfit and carrying too much weight.
Elliot is super-fit now, which is surely down to Woodys coaching.
In the Q&A last week Parky and Breacker confirmed Randy didn't apply himself in training enough
I think he's being well paid.
I agree we need a specialist GK coack but he doesn't seem to be up to much from the little I see on a matchday and from the average GK standard of the last few years.
Seems several boardmembers think the same
really
Might be wrong but I think he is now coaching the u18 keepers as well. Someone mentioned on here the youth goalkeeping coach had lost his job and I think Woodman was mentioned in one of the recent match programmes in the academy bit.
If Murray, Parkinson and Breacker deem him good enough then I am happy with that, its unlikely in these times of fianancial constraints we are going to carry passengers.
If he does well and can keep Robbie on top of his game and challenging for a start then surely the training is paying off
That's good enough for me.

heard Mike Small has been assisting in that area ;-)
Wasn't Swisdom actually asking for information? Thought he had a relevant question and sometimes there are people who have useful information. I can't see anything stupid about his question. I'm always at the ground very early and have thus spent quite a bit of time watching the goalies warm up. It has often struck me that there seems to be quite a bit of chummy joking about and the whole session seems quite low tempo and casual. I have no idea whether or not this is a good thing, but I too would be interested to hear peoples views.
It's nothing to do with my being bored. It was an observation I made yet again at the weekend and decided there and then that I would pose it to the people on here. I knew I could expect some reasoned comment, some wind-up merchants and also that I might bug someone.
Much like stilladdicted I too arrive early most weeks and watch the warm ups and it doesn't seem especially challenging. It's all a bit low-key and lazy if you ask me. This seems to follow through into the game for Robbie and also did for Randolph. At least Worner looks like he gives a crap and seems to put a lot more effort in. I seem to recall this was the case in the warm up for Welling pre season too. He was berating himself for not getting down to shots etc. Robbie didn't bother. Woodman didn't bother.
In answer to your question I am not at the training ground every day so no, I can't say for certain what he does. But that is true of 99% of the conversations and posters on here too.
All I can refer to is the standard of goalkeeping and his body language and, as previously stated and echoed by other people, it's not been stellar in the goal in recent times and Woody's body language does nothing to inspire me either.
I don't know if Woodman does a good or bad job or if he's on big wages that were offered to him by a previous manager but the wording of the question reads as rhetorical rather than a request for more information on his roles and responsibilities.
