the club must know that priced correctly the home ends will sell out for this one?, my boy watched the cup draw yesterday and nearly hit the ceiling when Chelsea's name came out.Airman Brown said:Can’t see the police allowing Chelsea to extend beyond the JS Stand unless Charlton bottle the home take-up and argue for it (which would be poor).3 -
Given we've been smashed in the Championship lately, I am surprised how excited people are to see us play against one of the best teams in the world (even if that is less true than previous years). I can't see this being close especially with the state of our squad.3

Is Fratton Park louder than a full Valley? I don’t think so, and it’s certainly less aesthetic .AS1987 said:

Is the worst scenario 530pm on the Sunday or are there some other obscure options?
- Thursday @ 7pm and 7:45pm
- Friday @ 8pm
- Saturday @ 12:15pm and 5:45pm
- Sunday @ 12:30pm, 3pm and 4:30pm
- Monday @ 7:30pm
In my opinion, there are three very obvious TV options:
Wrexham v Nottingham Forest
Macclesfield v Crystal Palace
Boreham Wood v Burton Albion
That leaves six slots and I'm struggling to see anything else more TV-worthy than Charlton v Chelsea. To keep this off TV, the other six would be from these eight:
Portsmouth v Arsenal
Cheltenham Town v Leicester City
Franchise FC v Oxford Utd
Sheffield Wednesday v Brentford
Manchester City v Exeter City
Liverpool v Barnsley
Tottenham v Aston Villa
Manchester United v Brighton
They are each Championship at home to Premier League.
There's not much between Portsmouth v Arsenal and Charlton v Chelsea imo. We have the appeal of a London derby and a guaranteed strong away following.
I do think Portsmouth v Arsenal offers slightly more, but I didn't state that in the post you replied to.
I think the edge that tie has over ours is:
Fratton Park is a tighter and louder stadium than The Valley.
Arsenal are bigger than Chelsea right now.
We don't have a reputation for giant-killing, whereas Portsmouth do (the 07/08 FA cup springs to mind).
As for giant killing, what about when we beat them away in the League Cup?
Portsmouth beat Cardiff in the final of 2008. I hardly remember much giant killing.
Arsenal are currently better than Chelsea hence less chance of an upset. Chelsea are current World Champions, and Arsenal have never won the Champions League and haven’t won the Premier League for over 20 years, so I’m not sure the younger generation see Arsenal as bigger
It seems to me on this thread that our fans like to downgrade us all the time with some kind of deflated view of our history and general status in English football, due perhaps to our recent dismal period.0 -

Doesn't matter, it's a cup game and anything can happen. Plus depends how seriously they take it, they might put out kids and overpaid but never played ressies and get turned over by a resurgent Charlton side with a hat-trick from new signing Fukuda 😎Dazzler21 said:Given we've been smashed in the Championship lately, I am surprised how excited people are to see us play against one of the best teams in the world (even if that is less true than previous years). Fratton Park is one of the loudest grounds in the country. To try and claim The Valley is louder is delusional.jimmymelrose said:

There isn't really. I think our tie is practically guaranteed to be on TV. From the remaining fixtures, Franchise FC v Oxford United was one that has the potential to be picked as the ones that I didn't list are even less appealing. Newcastle v Bournemouth and Stoke v Coventry aren't exactly exciting draws.Ducktapeshoerepairs said:

Franchise FC are two divisions below Oxford Utd, actually have a fairly decent chance of winning the tie (a televised upset) while it's also relatively regional. There's absolutely no reason to pick it over Charlton v Chelsea.
It's definitely a louder ground and it being less aesthetic is actually part of the appeal.jimmymelrose said:

Pompey beat Manchester United at Old Trafford that season in the FA Cup. That was back when Man Utd were still a decent team (league winners that season).
The biggest thing I remember us doing in the FA Cup was beating Blackburn Rovers (a big team at the time) in a replay at Ewood Park way back in 93/94. On the flipside, I have several memories of us being the victim of giant-killing in the FA Cup.

For what it's worth, Sky Sports have named us as one of the most interesting ties in the round.
Though they also say Spurs v Villa is the best of the lot.

Eddie Howe to be reunited with Bournemouth considering he has managed as many games against them as he has Newcastle now.Croydon said:For what it's worth, Sky Sports have named us as one of the most interesting ties in the round.

https://www.thefa.com/news/2025/oct/10/arsenal-sanctioned-by-pgb-fa-cup-rule-breach-20251010Just two months ago Arsenal received a suspended fine for not providing the full required away allocation to Manchester United.
The Professional Game Board (PGB) has sanctioned Arsenal FC for breaching the 2024-25 FA Cup Rule 192 in relation to its third round tie against Manchester United FC on Sunday 12 January 2025.
2024-25 FA Cup Rule 192
The home club shall comply with any request for tickets made in accordance with Rule 191.
2024-25 FA Cup Rule 191
For competition matches other than a semi-final or the Final, the away club shall have the right to claim either:
(a) up to 15% of the tickets issued (up to a maximum of 9,000); or
(b) if the Ground is not all ticketed, up to 15% the Ground’s maximum capacity, provided that:
191.1. the tickets are for admission to a fully segregated area; and
191.2. the request for the tickets is made within four days of the relevant draw.
It was alleged that Arsenal FC had breached the 2024-25 FA Cup Rule 192, and the matter was referred to the PGB for consideration.
The PGB concluded that Arsenal FC had failed to comply with the 2024-25 FA Cup Rule 192 and imposed a suspended £500,000 fine.
The fine is suspended pending Arsenal FC’s confirmation that it is able to comply with this requirement for the 2025-26 FA Cup third round and continued compliance for any further rounds of this season’s competition.0 -
When was the last time we hosted a large(ish) club at home in the FA Cup? Norwich City in January 2022? They just had the Jimmy Seed as usual, there was no hint of needing to give them anymore.0

Zero chance Chelsea field a side they'd be putting out in the champions league 10 days later.Dazzler21 said:Given we've been smashed in the Championship lately, I am surprised how excited people are to see us play against one of the best teams in the world (even if that is less true than previous years). That being said, their b team or U21s will be more than strong enough for our current defensive lineup.
If the clubs agree a sensible ticket price i.e top price £20 then a good crowd should result
Charlton's chances of being in the hat for the 4th round draw not helped by the extra time and penalties/no replay. Our 2nd string another step down from the quality on which Enzo Maresca can draw.
Love to see us give them a good game.0 -

Will season ticket holders get a chance to our normal seats?0

They always have - so it's yes.jonseventyfive said:Will season ticket holders get a chance to our normal seats?1 -
if (when) we're announced as a TV game - price it sensibly and fill the ground, will look great on live TV
any 'lost' ticket revenue would be made up by the TV income anyway1 -
I think if I were a Charlton player I would be looking forward to this game and hope to be picked. To that end I wouldn't be fannying around for the next month.1

They have for the last 100 years. But, I see what your doing, it’s going to be Charltons very own STUWALL thread…..jonseventyfive said:Will season ticket holders get a chance to our normal seats?0 -
