Petition for station at Ricoh Arena Coventry

As some of you may know I have the misfortune to live in Coventry so have lots of Skyblue mates, the club and council have been battling for funds to get a station at the Stadium with not much luck so someone has raised this petition.

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/RICOHstation/

For those that have travelled to the Coventry by train the trip from station to ground is a big taxi ride, unlike Charlton Cov arent fortunate enough to have a station by the ground, with the increasing number of high profile concerts at the Ricoh too the stadium and Arena park is crying out for a decent rail link.

In the interests of football fans home and away Id ask if you could sign this petition

Thanks

Thommo

  • signed.Anything that helps people get out of Coventry quickly has to be a good thing. ;-)
  • You just want another local spotting site ;-)
  • Signed, I don't know how in this day and age, with all the tight planning procedures that are (supposedly) in place it was allowed for a club and its associate partners to build a stadium so remote from a major form of public transport. On both occasions I've been there the day has cost me well over £100 of which at least a fiver is spent getting from the city centre to the ground by way of taking two separate buses. It seems especially frustrating as a railway track runs right alongside the ground!

Perhaps they shouldn't have moved from Highfield Road then.

I see they had enough money to build the casino at the Ricoh - I thought the train station was part of the PP?

It's also hardly struck a chord with the locals either - only 663 signatures.

bang on. none of these stadiums should be built without a train station within a mile.
  • Yea i have bin to Coventry not a pleasent place but then it was ruined about 60 years ago. I would sign it as i have no bad feelings towards the club and can remeber the missions when i got there. Being quioet youong i couldnt afford the taxi so me and mate had to walk stopping art various pubs and bars along the way its not pleasent but then i grew up in Deptford so im kinda used to it and i thinkeverywere has good and bad parts to it.
  • Coventry is almost as big an armpit as Hull.

I don't plan to go back there any time soon
  • Yea Hull is not a pleasent away day either i agree.

lol...i thought he might have fell asleep on his keyboard.
  • As Addickted will testify.....their ridiculous claim that the 'pay and walk' car park is but a few minutes walk from the ground is a load of crap....make that about 20 minutes 'brisk' walk plus another 5 minutes to get into the ground and to find your seat.
It's a mission to say the least....thank God it wasn't raining!
Most of us missed the first five minutes a few years back as a result of this duff info.
    Build a station I say.
  • Are you still going on about that 'yomp' Soundas?

A massive 690 signatures for the station now - are you listening Gordon?

Too right Addickted............it'll live long in the memory.
  • Fuck em, why should be be assisting another club to potentially improve their attendances? I know we haven't a valley express from cov (yet) but we may be competing against them some time in the next 20 years so why would we want to help them? They should have thought about this when they built it.

    Why not help them?

What kind of comment is this really? A station would make it easier for fans home AND away to attend matches at the Ricoh, it would ease traffic problems and get people on public transport.

Personally it the current climate anything that can help people get to games easier should be encouraged, clubs across the board are suffering with the recession.

The reason the stadium hasnt got a station yet is because the strategic rail authority and network rail dragged their feet and the government pulled the funds as in the first instance as the cost ratio wasnt good enough. Now that ratio has improved as has been shown in the recent joint report by Coventry City Council and Warwickshire County Council but the recession seems to have pit the Kibosh on the new proposals.

I just thought Id share it as before I lived in Cov trips to the Ricoh were a pain in the arse with expensive Taxi fares.
  • Tbh, I'd be more in favour of a petition to demolish the Ricoh - such a souless ground. If it has to exist though, it seems ludicrous for it to be allowed with such crappy transport links (as EGA says), so I've signed. Took frigging ages to get out of the car park last time I was there as well.
