Jack Bond RIP

Remembered by Kent fans for a magnificent diving catch in the covers to dismiss Asif Iqbal in full cry and deprive Kent of a Gillette Cup win back in 1971.

Not the best of players himself perhaps but a very good captain with the ability to inspire his fellow players.

Passed away aged 87.

    Those were the days Len.
    RIP Jack.
Hit the winning runs, partnering man of the match David Hughes, in the great semi-final win at OT vs Gloucs that year that finished in the dark. Top man.
  • Was there to see that catch, broke my heart, probably the most drunk I’ve ever been that day, went from there to a wedding, RIP Jack.
  • Remember him captaining a very good Lancashire side that excelled at one day cricket including Clive Lloyd and Farokh Engineer. RIP

We watched this on TV as we celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary , drinking a few glasses of banana "wine" we'd made earlier that summer with our new home brewing kit.

Sadly to say both the match & the wine were unsuccessful.

    Sleep tight, Jack.
  • Jack Bond was a superb Captain for Lancs.
He average was only 26 for his county but was a great fielder and skipper.
That game against Gloucester and the brilliant Mike Procter sticks in my mind. Live on bbc.
The final against Kent I had managed to forget until reading this thread !

RIP Jack, a small man in height but a giant in the eyes of his team mates.
  • From the era when Lancs were the team to beat and he lead them very well.
    RIP Jack.
