Best ever Friday night game?

They used to be a regular occurrence in the 70's. Always a bit special.

You youngsters don't know what you're in for next week.

Didn’t we beat Palace at home on a Friday night? Luke Varney or Matt Spring scoring?

Southend is a good shout too
That was the game I was about to say.... 2-0 Varney with both.

Spring scored in a 1-0 a season or so later.
  • Southend 1-2 Charlton

Kyle Reid (90th min winner to end my seven year jinx on the road)
Yep, went off when Reidy scored...
  • Palace at home under Pardew, 2-0 victory, Luke Varney with both, sell out crowd was a Friday night game, February 2008 I think. That would take some beating.

Also, Swindon at home on Sky in 97/98. 3-0 victory, Mendonca with 2 I think, maybe Keith Jones with the other.

Clear winner - in my experience.

Edit: Don't be silly - it wasn't a Friday night!

That Southampton game will take some beating.
  • Think the Preston game was on a Tuesday, sure we beat Palace on a Friday that season.

I missed the Southampton 6-2 (last home game I missed for 9 years I think), but the 4-1 against them was pretty good as well.

Didn't think that was a Friday if you mean the promotion match.

Tuesday or even Thursday comes to mind.

  • Did we play Ipswich on a Friday or was it midweek? When I think we might have been 2 or 3 down and come back and won, I was in the west stand and everyone was throwing their programmes onto the pitch. That was a great comeback!

Think Marcus Bent Scored both Ipwich’s goals inside the first 10 mins.

  • Southampton 6-2

I remember watching Nationwide before I left for the game as they were doing a piece about Southampton. They walked passed their trophy room with the F A Cup in the corner and the Southampton bloke said "Oh that? Just something we picked up in the summer".

I remember their goalkeeper having to pick the ball out of the back of the net six times later than evening.
