New TV question

My four and a half year old TV has packed up but fortunately I bought it from the good people at Richer sounds so it’s still under warranty. Even better is the fact that the part is no longer availed so they’ve given me £350 to spend on a new one.

These are the two I’m looking at, I use a fair bit of smart TV stuff. Any of you lot out there that are more up on these things than me give me a bit of help deciding.

  • I'd be going for the LG out of those two, it's a slightly better set.

If you can lob in £30 of your own and the extra size fits, this would be a decent upgrade for the cost...

If, not then go for the original LG or this...

The Tosh probably just edges it, but not by much. There's so little between them you probably won't notice the difference. Get down there, view them both and see what your preference is.
  • I have an LG 41" Ultra HD TV and have to say that it's got the best picture out of all the TV's I have had. I can access Prime Video and Netflix very easily on it too.
  • I've got a 55" Samsung curved smart TV.....best one I've ever had, picture quality is superb
  • The one we had previously was an LG and that was a decent one (apart from when it packed up) .

I think I’ll go for that.

Good to hear positive feedback re Richer Sounds in these difficult times for retail.

Our son is the IT/Facilities Manager at their HQ in SE1 & has worked for the company for the last 13 years.
I complained , (about ten years ago), about feet missing from a Sub Woofer.
No trouble taking the unit back and they sent me a £25 voucher, which I put down on a AV amp. That cost considerably more than the voucher and amp combined but it was a good gesture from them, they didn’t have do that.

I can’t fault Richer Sounds always very competitive with prices and their customer service is better than most. A couple of years ago I went into the Bromley branch to buy a 65in TV and the guy in there told me I needed to spend a few hundred more so I took his advice. My wife thinks I’m easy meat for salesmen but I know a 8 series is better than a 7 series even she can’t appreciate the larger number.
  • I once did some (nice) customer feedback on something, and got a postcard from boss man Julian Richer himself, hand blimmin written, that even mentioned something I had commented on.
Always thought they were very decent.

Julian Richer is a multi-millionaire, gives 15% of his profits to charity, advises companies on staff motivation and how to handle customer service, has written a book on ethical capitalism, married a model and plays the drums.

He's the perfect owner of Charlton.

I hope you kept up the correspondence, @seth plum

My voucher came with signature on it. I’ve been told he reads all complaints. I don’t know if that is still true but it’s a nice thought nonetheless.
  • Coincidentally Julian Richer is the pre dinner speaker at a dinner this evening my boss is attending. He gives every member of staff their birthday off. Amongst other things he does to make his staff feel valued at all levels. Something I think is lacking in other retailers.

  • We used to give all of our staff their birthday off, if it fell on a weekend they could choose the Friday or Monday.
  • I let all my staff have their birthday off as long as they were born on 29th February...
  • Bought an LG 49" UltraHD Smart 4K TV on Black Friday via Amazon. Turned up with a cracked screen. Got it replaced. It's excellent but not enough UHD programs or films on to get full enjoyment.

49in, you sure you didn’t buy an iPad?
  • If you're looking to use 'smart stuff' I think you have to look at the holes in the back. The more holes, the more you can plug into it.
