Televised Football .. Aston Villa Yet Again

Villa play Bolton in the SSports televised game. Villa or Leeds seem to be almost omnipresent when sky broadcast the Champ.
Villa is a massive club and needs the money to get even more massiver. (New word)
Both teams are in pretty dire form, 17th placed Villa have won one in the last five, 19th placed Bolton have won none in the last five. Should be a classic.

Anyway, Jack Grealish is the most fouled player in the Championship. Villa are on the box so often that it is easy to see that whoever the opposition, players take turns to foul him, to slow him down, put him off his game. They're prepared to take a booking 'for the team' but a mate will do him next time to spread around the yellow and hopefully avoid the red.
There is room to copy rugby here, both codes. When a rugby referee considers that persistent law breaking is happening (not just fouling opposition players) he will call the team captain over and warn him that the next transgression will bring serious consequences. Rugby Union has the sin bin so that is an option not available to football referees. Sadly, perhaps more red cards should be dished out to protect the Grealishes and Hazards of the world, not to over protect them but there must be a line drawn to protect the skilful from persistent fouling at the hands of the more plebeian.

  • @Bedsaddick .. would be comedian/satirist ? .. don't give up the day job
  • Unfortunately, I doubt that idea would work in football as you’ll get the Zaha type players diving even more than now to ensure opposition players receive red cards.

there is already 'legislation', albeit rarely used, to penalise 'divers'

juniors tend to copy seniors, especially heroes they see on the telly .. if the young saw from early on that 'crime don't pay' … ?
  • good game this .. Bolton are playing out of their skins and Villa still look undercooked .. Grealish scored the only goal so far .. a Bolton player shoulda floored him ((:>)
  • first Notlob booking for a dirty cynical foul on Grealish
  • Grealish's socks are incredibly low, is he even wearing shinguards?

always the same .. I thought that not wearing shinpads was a bookable offence .. so he must be wearing a very tiny pair or the 'law's' been altered

  • He wears The same pads as everyone else, he just chooses to wear his socks at the bottom of his shins.

I’m sure Zamorano 1+8 did the same at inter

I read an interview with him before - he actually wears Children’s Shinpads.

Refs can't pick up on everything that happens and generally, the higher the level, the better the fouling.
  • Dirty Leeds are on again tomorrow.
  • Grealish is probably the most overrated player I’ve ever seen
  • Dirty Leeds are on again tomorrow.

Its unbelievable how many times theyve been on the box this season. Literally every week.
