Jamal Kashoggi

Saudi journo missing presumed dead.

A senior police source told online news website Middle East Eye the journalist had been "brutally murdered, killed and cut into pieces".
"Everything was videotaped to prove the mission had been accomplished and the tape was taken out of the country," they said.

A friend of Mr Khashoggi, Galip Dalay, told Sky News that he "personally got the news that he was killed two days ago".

Saudi authorities however have rejected the allegations as "baseless" and said a team of investigators had been sent to the Turkish city to help look into the case.

He went into the consulate, but there is no footage of him leaving. Not sure how the Saudi's think they can get away with this.

  • Further info on it here, pretty detailed info given for something that according to the Saudi's didn't happen.

  • shit......I thought we were talking about a potential new owner.
  • Because they have loads of oil money.

And buy billions of pounds worth of weapons from us.

This story has gone a bit under the radar but his disappearance is starting to cause waves with the Saudis threatening, in response to Trump's threat if they don't come clean, to "match any action with a bigger one".
  • In all seriousness, very messed up, and a horrible way to go.

Still a lot of places where it's very dangerous and very brave to be a dissenting voice.
  • he was very foolish to enter the embassy, even in a neutral country, of the state which he had fled .. another example of an arrogant totalitarian state getting away with murder
  • Turkish & Saudi officials are currently searching the embassy.

Pretty chilling report here https://theguardian.com/world/2018/oct/12/how-jamal-khashoggi-disappeared-visual-guide. The Saudis are basically saying that it's a complete coincidence that a team of Saudi experts, including a forensics specialist, arrived in the middle of the night on a private jet and left the same day. That Khashoggi went into the consulate, leaving his fiance outside, and then forgot to go back to her when he left (or for 2 weeks and counting afterwards). That the Saudi team were seen at or around the consulate (in which all non-Saudi staff had been given the afternoon off) and at the house of the consul general (whose staff had been told not to come in that day). All a massive coincidence and not at all a pre-meditated state execution. I'm sure the Saudis were just in Istanbul to see its famous cathedral...

Yes, but the sun was sooooo hot that they had to take refuge inside the Saudi embassy

Don’t worry Trumpie, the chief sweeper under the carpet, is on the case. Can’t have those arms contracts going tits up. Plus he needs to get the Saudi’s pumping more oil as his sanctions against Iran are already seeing world oil prices rise.

Trump's not the only one who'll be doing a bit of sweeping though. Just watch how strenuous we are about this compared to the Russian's tourist visit to Salisbury. I know this isn't in the UK and Khashoggi wasn't a UK citizen but I'd be surprised if we get more than a "Down with this sort of thing" protest out of Downing St.
Well, let's just hope your question isn't brought closer to home by the reappearance of the "Saudis" bidding for Charlton. That'll spice things up on here. But I think there is more chance of Red Bull, the other CL fantasy, suddenly swooping in...

Agree that is pretty much a given. Dear old Crispin Blunt was doing a bit of squirming on Newsnight last night about whether our wonderful trade negotiator Dr Fox should attend this big investment shindig the Saudi’s are holding.

Malcolm Rifkind was much more blunt on R4 this morning. Said he should not go, period. But then Rifkind is an old school Tory with at least a modicum of principle when it comes to foreign affairs, not that the bar is set high for that.
It really drives home the point of how far our politicians have fallen in quality and integrity when you start stacking up names from the even quite recent past and compare them against what we currently are saddled with.

And then cut the body up into small pieces
  • I get this is horrific but maybe I missed a bit of this story.
Why is Trump getting involved? WTF is it to do with America? Why is it front page news everywhere?
People die and disappear all the time so I’m not quite so sure why this is global front page news.

Disclaimer - been mega busy lately so nowhere near as up on the news as I’d like to be.
