A sobering thought.

The Addicks were formed in 1905, a hundred and thirteen years ago.
I started going in early1958, which means I have been watching them for over half of their existence i.e. 60 years.
I know there are other Addicks out there who will most certainly outstrip that by some distance.
I wonder who is our oldest surviving fan....anyone know?
It would be nice to know who lays claim to that honour.

Red Chaser and Blackpool72 will make claim to that.
  • Be great to hear about these. Love hearing about fans who have been going for years or have been to loads of games etc for a consistent period
  • Acabs dad Jim is 90 years old and a season ticket holder.
He also still does the occasional away game so must be one of our longest serving supporters.

I imagine he must have some fascinating stories to tell from over the years.

Can you find out when he first attended?

Sadly not, my first game was in short pants v Blackburn April 1958 in the infamous end of season 3-4 home defeat when we only needed a draw to go straight back up to the old 1st Division (Premier League today). Now as For Blackpool 72 he's just a baby. Honoured to be placed in the same age bracket as him though Elfs  .

I missed the context as to why he was there but Keith Ferris was on the pitch yesterday.

I think he was once the Club dentist (or maybe it was doctor) and I'm sure I've read letters from him in Voice of The Valley (in its original incarnation) and elsewhere referring to Charlton in the War and even before.

I reckon he is a contender.
  • Henry Irving was born in 1838

Gives Doctor Who a run for his money  .

My mum supported Charlton from 1933 til 2015 - 83 years.

I bet she wobbled a bit in 1956

Jim started going to Charlton in 1953 aged 25 when he moved to plumstead from Norfolk.
Acabs grandad started going in the 1020's.
Acabs has been going since the 60's and has never forgiven them.

No, she just realised we are shit

And he still hasn't got a promote.

Thanks.....what I would like to know is who is the longest serving fan....not necessarily who is the oldest.

  • Feb 1950.
Watch from North upper these days.

Impressive, but I’m certain there’s a good few out there who can top that.

    I make Sporadic right, mathematically.

We count to 10 ..... not 9.

    Sorry, Albie.

  • I like this thread. Feeling just that little bit younger
