  • Wonder what that is all about?

That was a good and often exciting team. Saw them live here in Plzen in the Europa league. Good fans, knowledgeable, respectful, amiable. Only narrowly knocked out by Atletico.

Issues last season according to the link including The President suspending 19 players after losing to Athletico and players being attacked by fans in May
  • The fans attacking players was really bad apparently. Really shocked a few of their players and it clearly has had a knock-on
  • If those cancellations are ratified etc, there's a couple of very good free transfers in that lot. Teams like Arsenal should be after Carvalho for a start.
  • After finishing 3rd in the league and missing out on Champions League football the team, including coaches were attacked at their training ground by around 50 'fans'

Bas Dost was one of the more severely targeted (he's scored a goal a game on average ffs) most of the team went on strike before the cup final but decided to play in the end, they lost.

By all accounts players terminating their contracts was a dot on the cards from that day.

  • Expect they'll end up at Wolves.

Rui Patricio is certainly being linked to Wolves

Carvalho is rumoured to be heading to Everton
  • From the above link

Carvalho has been linked with the likes of Everton and West Ham while Martins is reportedly a target of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Patricio, meanwhile, is a target for Wolves and Napoli while Dost was recently linked with a move to Newcastle United.

Surprised that Carvalho is being linked with Everton and West Ham and not Arsenal also surely Dost can do better than Newcastle

Dost has never really done it at the top level. I think he would do well at a club like Newcastle. A good goal scoring record without doubt, but not sure he's capable of much above that.

Bloody hell. I guess there are fans, and there are fans. I mean losing narrowly to Atletico was not exactly a disgrace, and Bas Dost, as you say, had a brilliant season. He was injured for the first game against Viktoria but his replacement Fredy Montero was just as lethal. One of their goals in that leg was a thing of beauty.

We were travelling into Lisbon on a bus on holiday couple of years back. A delightful young lady had befriended us and helping the tourist. We passed their ground, and I commented it. Her face darkened and she said "yeah, but they suck" She said she was a Benfica fan, Benfica is the people's team while Sporting are for the "elite". Something like in Manchester before the Arabs arrived?

  • Fecking CARD again, nothing but bleeding hooligans. ;)

    BRENTFORD???

  • Carvalho could be a quality signing for a lot of teams.

  • Just as well when we beat them it was a friendly, their fans sound like lunatics

The manager also resigned as well. Had a year left on his deal but decided he was out of there as well, and went to Al Hilal in Saudi arabia!
  • Do they want Sarr back?

Honestly in Plzen they were excellent. That's why I am surprised.

Partizan Belgrade, that was another story.

My local team, got full respect for them and their fans, all the other tossers round here support Chelski, lol, few Fulham out of the wood work recently
  • Close to 200m worth of talent walking out for free.

Rui Patricio has signed for Wolves. William Carvalho is reportedly going to Inter Milan.

Would expect at least 2-3 of the others to end up in the premier league.

Bloody hell.. That is really bad and players talk so it makes you wonder how many more will follow as well as how will they manage to sign anyone half decent?

Not as much as a problem as we find ourselves in, but for a big club in Portugal, that's massive and they're clearly in big trouble.

Also, some great signings in that list too. Now they'll be free agents, you would expect to see a lot of activity of teams being in for them and getting deals done soon.
  • Even for the players in two minds if they should cancel their contracts or not. When your teammates are getting huge signing on fees as they are 'out of contract' that will no doubt push a couple more to make the same decision.
  • I thought it was in Portugal.
