What Four Starting Positions Most Need Upgrading This Transfer Window?

edited May 2018 in General Charlton
I say "four" because it sets priorities and because I don't see us upgrading any more than that, realistically.

PS-this assumes we sell no one, because we just don't know yet.

    Yep
  • Great, now that we got that out of the way...
  • Goalkeeper - Creative Midfielder - Striker - Striker
  • Goalkeeper, full back, midfielder enforcer, striker
  • GK another CB, and two forwards. Our forward line is so lightweight

    Goalkeeper
    Midfield beast
    Creative midfielder
    Goalscorer

Yes! But also a right back. So five. If I had to lose one, let's go with DP in goal.

@DaveMehmet will be along shortly with other possible options....

Starters Mag, Konsa, Djik(mf) Bauer Aribo perhaps Phillips or the Oz Fosu KAG (Igor?). Prefer to seĺl a RCB and get a pacy one on left. Need two big athletic FBs, a dominating goalscorer and a £2m quality winger. Oh and a leader on the pitch if none of the above. Umerah Hanlan Blumberg to get game time. BTW how tall is Alfie Doughty?

Probably about the same chance of making the playoffs next season.

I think we can assume Konsa is going, so would that allow us 5 picks?

    1) Happy to give Phillips a run. He has played 36 times in Div Two and is 22 now, so hardly a novice. But need another senior keeper as cover and to push him. Probably a veteran towards the end of their career. Lots of those available.

    2) A specialist right-back. We do not have one, even in the Development squad. Surprised no-one makes this a priority as it was a glaring weakness in the play-offs.

    3) Defensive CM to replace Kashi. Hopefully someone more intimidating and less injury-prone. I know Dijksteel is nearly ready, but we need cover. Also there may be times we will play both of them.

    4) A hold-up CF. (Kermogant?). Unless Hanlan wows Wembley this Sunday.

    5) A goal-scorer (unless Vetokele stays - unlikely).

Next would be a creative midfielder but, assuming limited funds, I am hoping one out of Reeves, Clarke or Maloney can make that position their's.

All hypothetical. The new owners may not have a cent left for new players once they have bought the club, or they may have enough dosh to perform a major transfusion like in SCP's promotion season.

We only have Phillips, Solly/Page, Marshall/Fosu and a load of dross that can properly play in those positions at the moment, and whilst Mascoll, Dijksteel, Konsa, Ahearne-Grant etc. Can all cover these positions next season, I'd rather have proper depth in each. Centre back and Central midfield are covered fairly well right now by comparison

Great take. Makes tons of sense to me.

  • I think we need at least 6 new "key" players, those being,

Goalkeeper, Right back, commanding midfielder, attacking midfielder, 2 strikers.

  • We now need someone new to go down the wing for me.

  • 3) Defensive CM to replace Kashi.

4)... unless Hanlan wows Wembley this Sunday.

According to BBC we are talking to Kashi about a new contract.

    Hanlan has been released.

No, I mean a goalkeeper, four defenders, four midfielders and two strikers. Then rinse and repeat so we have cover.

Another Operation Powell is needed - mass recruitment of the right type of players to get us out of this pub league.
  • Rush goalie
    Goal hanger
    Chopper Harris type
Someone to organise the Christmas party in Newcastle
  • Goalie, Centre mid, two strikers.
  • GK
    RB
    Winger
    Striker
  • I would like to see some serious investment in ball boys.
  • And staff that can take less than 35 minutes to serve a pint of beer.

This, Centre mid can be Oztuner, Goalie can be Phillips 2 strikers picked from L2 and Non-League. Plus a midfield enforcer.
