Best Premier League players non 'top 6'

We were having a chat in the pub over the weekend about the best team you could field from the teams outside the top 6, and how well they would do in the league.

We came up with:

Pickford
Coleman (if fit), Ake, Maguire, Bertrand
Ndidi, Gross
Mahrez, Sigurdsson, Zaha
Arnautovic

Subs:
Pope
Sakho
Soares
Doucore
Shelvey (or Lemina?)
Shaquiri
Vardy

I reckon they'd finish above Arsenal, maybe Chelsea this year.

Thoughts?

  • Still cant let go of your beloved 4-2-3-1 eh Karl?

At least that team has the players for it!
  • Pickford
    Coleman | Gomez | Maguire | Bertrand
    Mahrez | Ndidi | Shelvey | Arnautovic
    Vardy | Murray
  • Pickford
    Coleman | Dunk | Maguire | Bertrand
    Mahrez | Doucoure | Siggurdson | Shaqiri
    Vardy | Arnautovic
  • Pickford
    Coleman Mee Maguire Bertrand
    Mahrez Doucore Shelvey Arnautovic
    Siggurdson
    Vardy
  • And how do you reckon they'd do?
  • And how do you reckon they'd do?

Wouldn't get in the top 6. Stark reminder of the gap between the top 6 and the rest.
  • Picking a team mainly from the more successful clubs from 7 to 20

    Schmeichel
    Coleman Maguire Tarkowski Bertrand
    Mahrez Doucoure Siggurdson Albrighton
    Vardy Barnes

Zaha and Sakho probably should be in that team, but I couldn't bring myself to include them!
  • Pope
    Coleman | Mawson | Tarkowski | Bertrand
    Ndidi | Shelvey
    Mahrez | Sigurdsson | Shaqiri
    Vardy

There's actually a wealth of midfield talent, including but not limited to:

Zaha, Arnautovic, Mooy, GroB/Gross at Brighton, Lewis Cook, Milivojevic, Deulofeu, Richarlison, so on
  • Full backs seem the weak area.

  • Anyone adding a current Palace player in their squad deserves shooting... ;)
  • Schmeichel
    Coleman Aké Keane Bertrand
    Mahrez Mooy Shelvey Shaqiri
    Lanzini
    Vardy

Very tough, plenty of stand outs

    Pickford
    Coleman Mawson Lascelles Bertrand

    Gueye

    Mooy Arnatovic

    Marhrez Zaha

    Vardy

    Pope
    Macguire
    Shelvey
    Shaquiri
    Murray
    King
    Allen
  • Interesting but not surprising to see so many people picking Pickford. Honestly don’t think he has it in him to be playing at the top level for long, let alone becoming England’s number 1.

I think the opposite - he's good now and will get better too.
  • Yeah I could be wrong. I can just see him being one of those players who we look back on in 10 years time and laugh at his inclusion in an ‘England team of the future’.

The top 6 have won more games the other 14 put together, so it (kind of) makes sense.
  • Schmeichel is better than Pickford.

As does anyone adding top 6 (Liverpool) players to their squad
  • Three stand out - Vardy, Maguire and I won't mention the other one!

Mahrez easily the best player outside the top 6 sides. He should be playing European football.
  • Oh yes, I forgot about him - four then - Leicester have quite a few don't they? I like Albrighton and Scmeichel too!

You could have Arsenal players in this now, and as Wolves are in there too I think it'd be a strong side.

Off the top of my head something like this:

    Rui Patricio
Bellerin, O'Connell, Ake (for now), Digne
    Neves, Rice, Grealish
    Aubameyang, Jimenez, Richarlison

Feels better going forward than at the back.

  • ASM isn't in your team therefore your team is trash. I only speak facts

I think I would find room for Adama Traore.
