Overrated films.

As a chance to let fly at the films the critics dribble over as a counterpoint to the other thread.
As a starter, the BBC published the 100 greatest comedy films some months back, and the winner - the funniest film ever - was apparently Some Like it Hot. Not a bad film but laugh out loud funny? Fuck off. It may have had audiences in stitches in 1950 or whenever it came out, but it's just mildly amusing now. If that's the funniest film ever, comedy needs a big adrenelyn shot.

    Citizen Kane
    Fight Club
    North by northwest
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless Mind
    The Shape of Water
    Sister Act
All the Star Wars films apart from the first.

  • Sister act? That's fighting talk
  • Artificial Intelligence and fucking Vanilla Sky
  • Most films that win Oscars.
  • Heat. Bored me rigid.
  • Also, films like lala land, whilst enjoyable enough, are Hollywood films about Hollywood, and Hollywood gets very excited about them. I fail to see why I'm supposed to care on the same level.
  • Sure this was done recently... Anyway I said The Godfather then and I'll say it again now.

Normally really enjoyed Cameron Crowe’s movies but what the hell was he thinking with Vanilla Sky. 2001: Space Odyssey and Being John Malkovich, make you wonder what the critics are smoking.
  • Citizen Kane
    Fight Club
    North by northwest ????????
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless Mind
    The Shape of Water
    Sister Act
All the Star Wars films apart from the first.

  • Phantom Thread
The most recent Star wsrs tedium
  • Team America, couldn't see it out to the end.
  • The Royal Tenanbaums or whatever it’s called

Read a few reviews loving it.

One of the worst films I’ve ever seen.
  • This year went to watch ‘mother’, the critics thought it was great.

I thought it was batshit crazy even before having to look up what it was about. God and creation story? Really?

I hated it . It bored me rigid which is unusual because I love most of Hitchcock’s films.

Anything by Wes Anderson . Critics love him for some strange reason .
Tenanbaums is bad but Grand Budapest Hotel is nauseating.
  • Any Tarantino film.

What on earth is all the fuss about?

    Utter attention seeking drivel.

    No fucking way
  • Add Tim Burton to the overrated directors list.
  • Trainspotting. I’ve given it a go twice but I don’t like it. At all.

Oh, 3 Billboards. Didn’t like it. Tone of the film was all over the place and the humour fell completely flat, for me. Like the dozy girlfriend that mistakes polo for horses with polio.
  • Zoolander, took it back to blockbusters after 20mins in disgust

Bored you? It's fast moving, loads of twists, brilliant humour and Cary Grant and James Mason! I think you are getting mixed up with another film or you haven't seen it or you saw it when you were too young to understand it. Mind you, you also had Citizen Kane on your list so maybe you're beyond help...

    Yes! Especially “Inglorious Bastards”

And I thought it was just me!

Let's have loads of gratuitous violence and say the N-word a lot and call it art!

Yes - first film that came to mind.
