Wimbledon 2017

Doesn't start proper until next Monday...

In qualifying, Marcus Willis is one match from making the main draw two years in a row.

Last year, he got to the second round and played against Federer. One of the best moments of last year's tournament.

Andy Murray's performance at Queens and him pulling out of an exhibition match due to an injury is a bit worrying but hopefully should be ready to defend his title.

Same goes for Jo Konta. Some worrying results on grass so far but not had as good a prospect in the women's draw for many years.

  • We've got tickets for the first Friday on court 1. Last year before they put the roof on...fingers crossed for no rain.
  • Can you believe Fed is clear favourite at his age? You can't even get 5/2 against him!

It'll be interesting how Nadal copes back on grass. I think Federer is seeded 3 and Nadal 4.

Don't know about you but I look at those players names these days and just think...Scrabble! Have the USA given up on tennis?
  • Marcus Willis's sister got very excited last year.

Are those confirmed? Surprised to see Djokovic 2nd seed personally. Although good to know that Federer and Nadal are in opposite sides of the draw.

Would love another Roger Rafa final.
  • Yes they are real. The All England Club have their own seeding system unlike the other slams that follow the ATP ratings.

Just googled her. You're guaranteed 1 impressive set during his matches!

Yes, Stan is world number 3 at the moment, but that wouldn't make sense here, with his poor record at Wimbledon

The women's seedings look the same as the rankings (but without Serena obviously) but then the women's game at the moment is completely unpredictable at the moment

  • Willis currently a set down and has been broken in the second, not looking like he will qualify.
  • Didn't realise it went to best of five in the last qualifying round... come on Willis.

He's already got a Wildcard for the main Doubles Draw so wont be the end if he doesnt win.

He lost unfortunately to a tie break in the third.
  • Alex Ward (not Jacko's mate) is the Brit unknown who made it through qualifiying this year!
  • Bizarre fall for Konta at Eastbourne. She was at match point, thought she was going to have to retire.

After a long break, she got up and won the next two points to win 6-3 6-4.
  • Murray has been drawn against a Qualifier or Lucky Loser in the First Round.

Looks like he could end up facing fellow Brit: Alex Ward

    Oh god, not again.
  • Live just up the road in Southfields so might potter down to catch some henman hill bantz
  • Konta has withdrawn from Eastbourne with a back injury... Hopefully just a precaution.

Venus Williams' participation in Wimbledon this year could be in doubt.

Sounds as though she was in a car accident at the beginning of the month which saw a 78-year old man losing his life (RIP) seems to have been the fault of Venus as well for jumping a red light - Be interesting if she takes part now.

(Not based on the fact if she should be allowed yet more based on her current mindset)

  • Those projected QFs, never mind the semis looks mouthwatering.
  • Really fancy Rafa to win this one. Looks like he is over the worst of his knee injuries, with reports saying he's looking great on the grass.

Interesting to see the variety of nationalities at the top of tennis. 13 different nationalities in the top 16 men and 13 in the top 16 women too.
21 different nationalities in the two lists combined. Healthy competition.

    Tough draw for Murray.

Fognini 3rd round, Pouille or Kyrgios 4th round, Wawrinka or Tsonga QF, Nadal or Cilic SF, Federer or Djokovic F.

A few banana skins, but on his day would expect him to beat them :) Fed on grass the biggest challenge but lets see if he is fully fit. Come on Andy!

I think Djokovic is due to play Del Potro in the 3rd round, he's definitely somebody you don't want to meet!
  • Placed my bet, stuck a tenner on a Wawrinka and Wozniacki outright champions double @ 883/1.

A couple will get knocked out along the way, the draw very rarely ends up running exactly by seedings. Wawrinka to beat Murray too (sadly) on current form.
