Journalist Patrick Barclay laments the situation at Charlton on TalkSport

It was heartbreaking to hear Patrick Barclay on TalkSport last night (at about 8.15) waxing lyrical about the Charlton support during the Curbishley years.
He said that Charlton supporters at The Valley were indeed like a crowd who had all come home and that they had a sense of 'ownership' of the club- the latter of course being illustrative of the very strong connection between fan and club that Meire summarily and contemptuously dismissed in Dublin when she seemingly understood the connection to be taken literally.

Barclay's comments were made in the context of a debate about the fit and proper owners test and how this currently fails clubs such as Charlton, Leeds, Orient, Coventry, Blackpool and Blackburn to name but some.

Richard Wiseman of the Charlton supporters Trust was interviewed on air and made the point that although Duchatelet is the richest owner we have had he has nevertheless squandered money on the wrong players on inflated wages (sent out on loan because not good enough) and led us to relegation and the lowest position League position for 90 years.
He also pointed out that none of the clubs Duchatelet owns in the network are prospering with the possible exception of Carl Zeiss Jena where RDs ownership is restricted by German Bundesliga rules to a minority holding - is that telling us something?
