Roland to add RC Lens to the network ?

The Liege thread didn't seem right for this, lots of growing talk today that Roland is to bid for Lens.

Adding further to the network?

Potential replacement for us or one of the Belgian clubs ?

  • Probably not, bigger the net is spread the more fish is caught

And we will no doubt be forced to play those fish
  • Aren't they actually fairly good?
  • Well I think eventually he will have a team in all the major European countries so he has Spain, Belgium, Germany and England wrapped up already, and wasn't he rumoured to be interested in an Italian club last season?
  • Well it seems obvious that Roland wants a French team seeing that he tried to buy Tours along with Andy Delort in the Summer.

Wonder if he could loan us a certain target man in Adamo Coulibaly if it goes through

    Missed out there.

  • I'm hoping, with the goalposts being moved regarding the FFP, english football holds much less attraction to him and will be looking to sell up ASAP.

I fear there's more chance of Harry Redknapp releasing an autobiography called "I robbed the lot of em".......................

Isn't there some sort of link with a Dutch club too ?

  • Of course people may remember the "owner" of RC Lens is one Hafiz Mammadov , the Azerbajani who sought to build his own network by buying Sheff. Wed. but could not complete the deal due to lack of funds. You would think Duchatelet would be more circumspect after his Ujpest adventure.

Clearly RD is not bothered by the company he keeps.

  • Lens won promotion to L1 last season but were almost denied the promotion by the French governing body because a sum due to be paid into their accounts by their Azerbaijani owner wasn't there (10 million euros). However, on appeal, they were allowed to go into L1 but are struggling in 19th place. I assume that means there were serious doubts about their ability to keep going and meet their commitments without the injection of cash.

Normal ground capacity is 41,000, although they're currently playing in a smaller stadium while their ground is renovated for the 2016 European Championship.

Lens are said to have an excellent academy with a proven track record (Moh. Diame, Assou-Ekotto, Taarabt, etc).

Presumably, all these factors influence RD's interest in them. Firstly, he hopes to get a club described by French media as in "serious financial difficulties" on the cheap. Secondly, he gets a big stadium refurbished by someone else (the French tax-payer?) Thirdly, well, you know his obsession with yoof.
  • Could they be a replacement for liege/Saint truden as they both can't be in the same league under the same owner?!
  • RD doesn't own STTV his other half does

Yes, Fortuna Sittard, but it is not clear exactly what's going on there. He has loaned them a million euros for some reason

@ sam3110, the Standard Socios (Trust) believe the Belgian FA won't buy the idea he does not own both clubs. And since he has managed to piss off half the other club owners too, you'd expect they will ensure the rules are obeyed.
  • The number of player movements between Liege and STTV makes the connection obvious. Also all the player sales at Liege and network moves to us and STTV are going to make Liege financials look spectacular.
The only reason you do that and therefore the most rational scenario in Belgium is that if STTV gain promotion Staprix sells Liege getting rid of a big challenge and raising €50M to fund other projects.
An alternative is that Duchatelet sells or floats Staprix. Again the financials for the last 12 months are going to look good compared to the rest of the industry.
RD is a wind up but he's no fool...you have to understand why he gave Riga the job at Liege to figure out what is going on.
In the whole of modern football history how many coaches/managers have been replaced after securing 2 points per game?
Is it chaos or genius at work?

    Yeah, right............
  • I like Lens, hopefully they'll see through him.

Anyway we need to stay focused on our own club.
  • Lens have been found guilty of financial irregularities and will be relegated at the end of the season, whatever place they finish.

That is why on the eve of the transfer window deadline RD tried to sign exciting young midfielder Wylan Cyprien is some funky (no doubt cheap) deal that would have Standard loan him back to Lens for the rest of the season.

While he was there (and you wonder why we didn't sign anyone) he also got into discussions to buy the club - clearly on the cheap.

  • Latest from French sites is that they have turned RD down but are expecting him to have another try.
  • Reckon the RC Lens fans must be thinking "Merde!"
  • Big Rob is currently residing in France. Might be a good idea to get him a doorman job at the club to keep any Belgian riff-raff out..............

Joint bottom of Ligue 1. Ahead of Metz on goal difference

Isn't that the same for all us men?

Buying a car for yourself, well, isn't for yourself...

Have you ever considered that you and RD have a very different idea of successs? You want CAFC to do well, he wants to buy players and sell them at a profit. (A) player(s) can increase in value no matter what league we are in, the bloke clearly doesn't care about CAFC, we are just another egg in the basket.
  • If Lens have another Stanis I would have him. He holds the world record for the number of goals scored in a cup game - 17.
  • Oh yippee, more wonderful players he can lumber us with.

Not yet but give him time.

    RD's football plan.

To the tune of Dad's Army

"Who do you think you are kidding Mr Dutchatelet, if you think we're on the run......"

  • It would be a lot easier if FIFA banned multi club ownership.
