Top five guilty pleasure songs.

Songs that you would lose your street cred if you admit you like tapping or singing along to, songs that you secretly can't hear enough but would be embarrassed to request or play in public... Be brave and be honest.

Mine

1. Rick Astley - Never gonna give you up.

2. Bros- I owe you nothing

3. Jason Donovan- nothing can divide us.

4. Hannah Montana- always find your way back home.

5. Gareth Gates- stupid mistake

    I love guilty pleasures .

My love of them probably stopped me contributing to the solo artist thread as I did not want to have loads of LOL's with my love of the likes of David Essex and Leo Sayer. They don't feature here but surprisingly David Bowie Charlton Life's favourite Solo artist features and underrated singer songwriter Albert Hammond sings one but co wrote three of them.

    David Bowie - Laughing Gnome
    Pipkins - Gimme Dat Ding
    Leapy Lee - Little Arrows
    Daniel Boone - Beautiful Sunday
Albert Hammond - It Never Rains In Southern California
  • Baccara - Please Sir I Can Boogie
    Dolly Parton - Jolene
    Boney M - Rasputin
    Madonna - La Isla Bonita
    Haddaway - What is Love?
  • in the year 25 25 - zager and evans
    sugar sugar - the archies
that same old feeling - pickitywitch

  • I liked some trashy disco bands in the 1980s, even bought an album by Dollar, and got heavily into Shakatak. Actually went to see them play live, in the chicken-in-a-basket environment of the Talk of the Town in Birmingham. A bloody good night out.

I must also confess to buying Kajagoogoo's sole album. Are Level 42 still derided? Great rhythm section of Mark King and Boon Gould.

Is 'Wichita Lineman' a guilty pleasure? Too good for that, surely...

wichita lineman - guilty, nahhhh, be proud! however, kajagoogoo, oh my...
  • Trying to avoid the ones people have already mentioned, although there are some crackers up there. Most of mine are because of the associations that the songs have for me, more than anything else

    Gertcha - Chas & Dave
reminds me of New Years Eve at Nan & Grandad's

    No Limits - 2 Unlimited
which reminds me of student club nights, when the DJ would introduce it as "and here's 'No Lyrics' by Too Untalented". It will always make me smile just because of that.

Under The Moon Of Love - Showaddywaddy
It's a long story involving one of my friends from university, copious amounts of alcohol, and a wedding DJ with excellent comic timing. As soon as the intro starts, I'm grinning and cringeing in equal measures.

    Dreamer - Supertramp
it's the harmonies. On a good day I can reach the high notes, but I'd never try it in public.

    Respectable - Mel & Kim
Yes it's Stock Aitken & Waterman, but it's bloody catchy anyway.

    I love that song!

    far too good!
  • I'm not musical enough to really put this into words, but many of these songs are... how do I phrase this... in a minor key I guess. 80s songs in a minor key have a real tension to them. I don't know how else to describe it.

Also, Wichita Lineman has no guilty connotations for me. Got a great REM version somewhere.
  • Reach out (I'll be there) - The Four Tops
    True Colours - Cyndi Lauper
Me Old Bamboo (From Chitty Chtty Bang Bang) - Dick Van Dyke.
    Waterloo - Abba
Bridge over troubled water - Simon and Garfunkel
  • Dorothy Moore Misty Blue
  • Great topic
    @sadiejane1981
    .

Here are my first thoughts (there must be lots more!)

Kylie - Can't get you out of my head (A song she's clearly singing about me.....)
M People - Sight for sore eyes
Bananarama - I heard a rumour (In fact everything by Bananarama.)
    Wham - Last Christmas
    Turtles - Happy Together

(Has nobody picked The Wombling Song yet?)
