Funny this thread should come up now as I've been listening to this on my MP3 to and from work the past few days.

Why was it a pivotal year ?

All the rules changed, the old certainties disappeared
    Substantiate that quote please.

Me too. It's had 35 plays on my iPod in the last 2 years. It's the moaning that does it ;-)

Out of the Blue (ELO) was 1977 - A brilliant Album and that Baccara moaning was far better than the moaning I get now!

    Vibrators
    Rats
    John Cooper Clark
    Buzzcocks - the very best

I'm sure there are more, but these are on my radar - I never clicked the connection to 1977!
Most of them doing 35th anniversary tours or some such.
Not seen a bum gig from any of them, despite becoming pensionable.

What a great list stonemuse. A must buy, I was 13 in 77 and this lot hit me like a fright train.
    As MOG says proper music.

Ah,heady days,I was an over excited 16 yr old & bought a drum kit for£10 and formed "The Infants"
Our first gig was at The George Green Centre on the IOD and we wheeled all our equipment through the foot tunnel in wheelbarrows.

What was pivotal in those times was the wonderful DIY nature of it all when we made our own clothes, brought out independent records & xeroxed fanzines.

All gone now of course,X-Factor anyone?

    That's a great list - but not a patch on 1967 ;-)
I'm with you. I've always maintained 1967 was the peak - Sgt Pepper, A Whiter Shade of Pale, the year of the Hippies.....

All those tracks are still a staple in my music player. Loved it then, still loving it.
Foreign Affairs by Tom Waits was 77 also. Some of his most heartwrenching stuff in the 70's.

David Soul Dont Give Up On Us 11-01-1977

Thankfully didn't buy one of those!
Was my first single that I bought at the age of seven, in Crisp Street Market, Poplar, when visiting my Nan.

Still love it today and sits along side my obscure indie vinyl collection.
