I have just attended Requiem Mass for Doug Wakenshaw.
For those who didn't know him, he spent his formative years in York, came to London and became a stalwart of the YMCA cc and fc at Mottingham.
He converted his wife Mary from Arsenal to Charlton and the whole family are keen long term Charlton supporters.
Some may have seen Doug and Mary at matches, home and away. If you have ever met them you will have instantly known that they were a truly lovely couple. Married for 61 years, I've not seen them for nearly 20 years but I had to drive up to pass on my condolences.
I found the service
difficult and have decided to give the crematorium a miss and instead thought that I would share his passing with the Charlton community.
It's not just his immediate family that mourn his passing.

I haven’t seen them for a while and it was clear that Doug wasn’t at his best whenever I did see them.
