  • Stokes was impressive with the ball yesterday. If he fit enough to bowl 10 overs or is he still being managed?

Would imagine he is fit enough , but no use flogging him to death as they have plenty of options .
  • Why have we got 2 cricket threads running?

Pres wanted to make a separate one for non-England matches at the WC. But looks like it’s taken on the England discussion today too.
  • Whatever score we chase will be at least 50 too many then it should have been.
  • Archer, Wood and Woakes have been a real handful today.

    Which bowler(s) conceded these 50 runs, @bolloxbolder
  • I was referring to the two dropped catches. Pretty sure more wickets would have fallen in the first 10 if Gayle had not been dropped by Wood.

How many do you think they "should" have been bowled out for?  162?  Less?

    Jimmy limped off today.

    .
Hardly surprising, just checked and he bowled 47 overs in June. That is no good for him.  Not his fault, it's the ridiculous schedule and the weather. You can train as much as you want but playing is completely different. It's no wonder a 36 year old gets crocked with such a lack of cricket. 47 overs in a month? I used to do that in a weekend.

    Australia will win the Cup.
    I'm on NZ @ 12/1 with a saver on us @ 9/4

One of us is going to be correct - I've just traded out some of my potential profit on NZ @ 3.3

England v Ireland a 4 day Test Match at Lords starts on Wednesday week.
Archer and Roy to debut? I think so.
  • So much for specialist squads for ODIs and Test matches - 9 of the WC 15 could play in the Ashes too (Roy, Root, Bairstow, Buttler, Woakes, Ali, Stokes, Archer and Wood).

Australia, by contrast, have named a 25 man Ashes squad of which only Warner, Smith, Khawaja,  Cummins, Starc and Lyon were in their original WC 15.

I mean at this point what do we have to lose by going for it?

We haven’t found the answer to the openers problem since Strauss and Cook. Good luck trying to name all the lads who have come and gone since Strauss’ last Test match.
  • Shane Warne reckons we should open with Bairstow and Roy in the Ashes.

That's because he wants  the Aussies to win.

Burns in for Morgan, move him to 1.  Everyone else drips down a place.

    Burns
    Roy
    Bairstow
    Root
    Stokes
    Buttler

Then perm any 5 from Jimmy, Broad, Woakes, Archer, Curren, Ali, Rashid and Leach.

My choice would be Ali, Woakes, Archer, Broad and Anderson.  God knows who would take the new ball with Anderson though.

Would you have Bairstow keeping and batting at three?  Or tell him he's no longer a wicket keeper?

    My team would be:
    1. Burns
    2. Roy
    3. Northeast/Denly
    4. Root
    5. Bairstow
    6. Stokes
    7. Buttler
    8. Ali
    9. Woakes
    10. Archer
    11. Anderson
Buttler would have the gloves if I had my way too

    Anderson is injured.
  • The last I saw he faces a race to be fit, not confirmed as out. I would play Broad against Ireland next week to cover that baseChizz said:

Ideally no, he is also a world class out fielder as well.

Until someone in authority gets Root and Bairstow told we will have the former at 4 and the later keeping.
  • Archer injured too.
  • Test squad for the Ireland game to be announced later today at Canterbury. No Anderson or Archer as both being given more time to get over injuries. Archer may even be kept out until Lords. Also Bairstow a doubt so Foakes may play. The Telegraph (and they are well informed) see it as this:

Likely team v Ireland: R Burns, J Roy, J Denly, J Root (capt), B Stokes, J Buttler, J Bairstow (or B Foakes), Moeen Ali, C Woakes, S Curran and S Broad.
  • That team is cack. It will be enough for Ireland I suppose.

Archer has had a niggle, but hasn't played any red ball cricket since last summer. A big call to throw him into the Ashes without any red ball games
